Job description

Rights Executive, Penguin Random House Children's (12-month FTC)

Do you have experience in foreign book markets? What about children’s books?

We are looking to recruit a Rights Executive to join our world record-breaking team on a 12-month contract, from February 2025 through to February 2026.

If you’re highly driven, ambitious, and looking for your next role in Rights, this could be for you.

The role

Reporting to the Senior Rights Manager, you’ll be working for a team who publish a wide range of debut and award-winning authors and illustrators, including Stephen and Lucy Hawking, Femi Fadugba, Beth Lincoln, Helen Oxenbury, Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeola, as well global brands such as Bluey, Spot and Peter Rabbit.

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing all sales into Turkey, Greece, Wales, and Israel
  • Overseeing sales in various smaller markets across our exciting portfolio
  • Managing global reprints for our picture book list, working with the reprint squad to deliver on ambitious growth plans
  • Developing and consolidating new and existing business partnerships to support growth in Rights
  • Representing the company at book fairs
  • Undertaking business trips as and when required.

What you’ll bring:

  • Thorough understanding of the principles of selling international rights
  • Collaborative team player
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to sustain external relationships and proactively make new, business-savvy contacts
  • Comfortable using internal systems such as Biblio

If this sounds like your next role, we’d love to hear from you.

Application instructions:

Please apply with your CV and cover letter outlining why you are the right candidate for the role by 11:59pm on Sunday 5th January 2025.

Please ensure you include a cover letter, as it is a crucial part of our assessment process. The cover letter offers an opportunity to show how your experience and interests align with the role requirements. Typically, we expect the cover letter to be no more than one or two pages in length.

Please note we are happy to accommodate a reasonable notice period for the right candidate, but we are looking for someone to join the team as soon as possible (ideally during February 2025).

We expect interviews to take place across mid-late January 2025, and we expect we will invite you to interview in person at our Embassy Gardens office.

Circa £30,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

What you can expect from us:

Our people are the heart of our business, and we work hard to support a culture of responsibility and recognition.

Our benefits include:

  • Financial – discounted shopping, season ticket loan, rental deposit loan
  • Wellbeing – healthcare cash plan, employee assistance, gym loan
  • Lifestyle – taste card, tech scheme, free and discounted books

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role, we expect that there will be meetings and activities that you will need to attend in person 3 days a week.
