JOB SUMMARY

The Rigger will install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in industrial establishments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Dismantles machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
  • Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, forklifts, and trucks.
  • Assembles and installs machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
  • Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to the foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hook.
  • Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches.
  • May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and heavy equipment operations.
  • Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy; follows instructions and reads blueprints; visualizes flat drawings or pictures as solid objects; works at heights without fear; uses logical step-by-step procedures in work; plans work and solves problems; makes decisions based on measurable information; performs a variety of duties which may change often, and operates machinery.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • The position is out in the field on customer job sites.
  • This job is physically demanding and requires the person to be able to lift and work with heavy machinery. Workers must be able to: Coordinate eye-hand movements; use hands and fingers fully; reach for, manipulate, and feel objects; stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl; climb and maintain body balance on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures; and see and hear well (either naturally or with correction); lift and carry objects weighing up to 70 pounds, and stoop and bend.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six months to two years of driving experience and/or training.
  • Knowledge of rigging heavy equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of the use of forklifts and various moving equipment.
  • Class A or Class B is required for this position with at least one year of experience.
