Job description

The Restaurant Food Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all food served at the restaurant meets safety and quality standards. This role involves conducting thorough inspections of food handling, preparation, storage, and service areas to ensure compliance with health regulations and company policies. The inspector will work closely with kitchen staff and management to implement best practices for food safety, sanitation, and quality control.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Food Safety Compliance:
    1. Inspect food preparation, storage, and serving areas to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food safety regulations (e.g., health codes, food handling standards).
    2. Verify that all staff members follow food safety protocols, including proper hand washing, use of gloves, and correct storage temperatures for food items.
    3. Monitor food expiration dates and ensure that expired items are discarded in accordance with safety standards.
  2. Sanitation Standards:
    1. Ensure cleanliness and proper sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining areas.
    2. Perform regular cleaning inspections to ensure all surfaces are sanitized regularly.
    3. Report and track any maintenance or sanitation issues and ensure they are resolved promptly.
  3. Quality Control:
    1. Conduct regular inspections of food products to ensure they meet the restaurant's quality standards for taste, appearance, and presentation.
    2. Monitor ingredient freshness, portion sizes, and proper preparation techniques to ensure consistency and high standards of food quality.
  4. Employee Training:
    1. Educate restaurant staff on proper food safety practices and cleanliness standards.
    2. Conduct training sessions on handling, storing, and preparing food in compliance with health regulations.
    3. Provide feedback and guidance to kitchen staff when food safety or quality standards are not met.
  5. Health Inspections and Documentation:
    1. Ensure that all required food safety logs, temperature charts, and inspection records are maintained accurately and up-to-date.
    2. Prepare for and assist during any external health inspections or audits.
  6. Incident Reporting and Corrective Actions:
    1. Investigate any foodborne illness complaints or potential contamination incidents.
    2. Implement corrective actions for any violations or issues identified during inspections.
    3. Collaborate with restaurant management to address concerns related to food safety and quality.
  7. Inventory and Supply Management:
    1. Monitor inventory levels for food safety supplies such as thermometers, gloves, and sanitizing agents.
    2. Ensure that all supplies are available and properly stored to maintain food safety.

Qualifications:

  1. Education:
    1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
    2. Certification in Food Safety or Health Inspection (e.g., ServSafe or equivalent) preferred.
  2. Experience:
    1. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a food service or food safety-related role (e.g., restaurant management, food safety, kitchen staff).
    2. Previous experience in conducting inspections or audits is a plus.
  3. Skills:
    1. Strong understanding of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and health regulations.
    2. Attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies or violations in food safety practices.
    3. Good communication skills to provide feedback and conduct training.
    4. Problem-solving skills and the ability to act swiftly in the event of a food safety concern.

Working Conditions:

  1. Part time position, typically during regular restaurant hours, with occasional evenings and weekends required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £22,880.00-£72,948.61 per year
