Residential Childcare Worker
Family Care Group
Location: On site / Wythenshawe, Manchester, UK
Job type: Permanent / Full-Time
Sector and subsector: Childcare | Childcare Practitioners
Annual Salary Range: from £25,553.00 to £27,175.00
Salary details: + £60 per sleep

Do you thrive in making a difference in the lives of young people? Do you have a passion for working with children? We are looking for an individual to work within our LD Children's Home in Wythenshawe.

A day in the life of a Residential Childcare Worker typically starts like any other day in a household. You support the young person in getting up and starting their day, whether that is in preparation for going to school or preparing for a fun-filled weekend. The young people are supported with learning and building on all aspects of their self-care and are encouraged to be as independent as possible by building on existing life skills and introducing new ones.

The young people are given freedom of choice in aspects of their lives, from what they would like for lunch to what activity they would like to participate in. Daily, we support the young people in attending school, having contact visits with their families, transporting them to and from appointments, and facilitating recreational activities. We also support our young people to go on annual holidays to different locations, both in the UK and abroad.

You will forge meaningful and positive relationships with the young people and their families and work closely with your team and all the other professionals involved in each young person’s life.

You will work within the Therapeutic Model used within each home and alongside the company therapists to ensure each young person can thrive and make real changes in their lives. Of course, there will be challenging times that require a good team spirit after a long shift, but seeing the smile on a young person's face after they have reached a milestone or achieved something important is priceless!

So, if you are kind, resilient, and have a “can-do” attitude, we want to hear from you!

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to the Care Planning process for children cared for by Family Care Group.
  2. Support young people with any personal care needs.
  3. Undertake moving and handling in line with policies and procedures.
  4. Attend and contribute to your supervision sessions and appraisal processes.
  5. Represent the company when called upon to do so by exhibiting the highest professional standards.
  6. Participate in training programmes and individual training courses.
  7. Undertake “sleep-in” duties in accordance with the home’s rota.
  8. Maintain all records in accordance with company policy, regulations, and statutory requirements.

What We Are Looking For:
  1. Must hold a current valid full driving licence.
  2. Previous Residential Childcare experience is essential (not nursery/early years).
  3. Experience of working with young people with a physical and/or learning disability.
  4. Possessing a Level 3 in Children's and Young People's Workforce is desirable.
  5. Be able to work on a shift/rota basis.
  6. Happy to undergo an enhanced DBS certificate upon appointment.

What We Offer:
  1. Salary: £25,553 - £27,175 + Sleep-in allowance (£60 per sleep).
  2. Extensive Training and career progression.
  3. A Contributory Pension.
  4. Access to Paycare and Employee Assistance Programme.
  5. Long Service Rewards.
  6. Sick Pay (after qualifying period).

Family Care is committed to safeguarding and always promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects the post holder to share this commitment. We follow Safer Recruitment practices to ensure we select suitable candidates.

All offers of employment are subject to safeguarding checks; both an Enhanced DBS check and comprehensive references will be carried out. We are permitted to ask whether an applicant has any convictions, cautions, reprimands, or final warnings (spent or otherwise) under the current guidance, as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (exceptions) Order 1975. Please note that disclosure of a criminal background will not debar you from employment.
