The School of Engineering at the University of Surrey is seeking to recruit a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow in AI, digitalisation, manufacturing and sustainability analysis to work under the leadership of Prof Jhuma Sadhukhan. This is a fixed term contract up to mid to late 2029.
The primary objective of this role is to conduct comprehensive research focusing on digital twin creation for advanced manufacturing systems and conduct their techno-economic analysis and life cycle sustainability assessment including life cycle assessment. The role will explore AI for end-to-end integrated 3D polymer material manufacturing from waste resources.
The successful candidate will study the sustainability of systems and combine it with AI for intelligent decision-support tools. You will develop the above methodologies for plausible bioplastics manufacturing and compare them against conventional systems and conduct their uncertainty analysis. You will create AI models for online optimisation and advanced control of the systems. You will also produce educational training materials on the studies you conduct and publish in high-impact journals. You will develop interactive tools for all the work done for users to evaluate and analyse their systems.
The successful candidate will have a strong research background and should have a PhD in environmental science, with experience in modelling and data analysis and a publication track record.
