Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for two Registered Dental Nurses to work as a Research Nurse in PDSE on a fixed term basis until 31st March 2026. These positions will ideally commence in mid-November 2024. There are two opportunities available:

  1. 2 days per week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays - 15 hours
  2. 1 day per week on Wednesdays only - 7.5 hours
Research Nurses will assist with various research projects in PDSE, with particular responsibility for supporting a research project run in partnership with Haleon. This will include clinical support, helping to set up and run trials and projects as well as administrative support, collecting and processing data, arranging clinics and helping to develop and manage processes.

These roles will be based in Plymouth though some projects will involve travel to other DEFs. Expenses incurred will be reimbursed in line with PDSE policy. Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (PDSE) are an award-winning Social Enterprise and Community Interest Company. We provide NHS treatment and outreach services to local communities in Devon and Cornwall and we work closely with the University of Plymouth's Peninsula Dental School to support the clinical education of its dental healthcare students.

You must be a qualified Dental Nurse and be registered with the GDC.

Role: PDSE Research Nurse
Grade: Band 5
Reports to: Clinical Governance and Operations Manager

Role Summary: The role provides assistance with research studies, projects and audits within PDSE, undertaken either internally, in collaboration with the University of Plymouth and in partnership with external research and academic organisations. The role will include both clinical support, assisting with project set up, running trials and projects and administrative support, collecting and processing data, arranging clinics and helping to develop and manage processes.

Some projects will involve travel to PDSE sites beyond Plymouth. Expenses incurred will be reimbursed in line with PDSE policy.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Working with PDSE Directors, Clinicians and academic staff supporting various projects
  • Overseeing the PDSE consent to contact for research process and maintaining the database.
  • Assisting with patient recruitment process
  • Liaising with patients regarding trials and appointments
  • Organising clinics to support research
  • Supporting on clinic for research related activity
  • Collection, recording and processing data
  • Designing processes to support research
  • Ensuring appropriate governance, ethics and policy are followed
  • Research related administration
  • Undertaking research specific training required for projects, including completion of the Good Clinical Practice course.

To provide any further duties as may be required where appropriate to the role.

Normal working hours are 08:45 to 17:00 Monday to Friday, however on occasions to meet business need you will be required to work revised hours, typically between 08:00 and 18:00.

The Working Time Regulations apply to all employees of Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (CIC). In particular, Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (CIC) will not permit staff in all employments to work in excess of 48 hours in any one week except where there are exceptional service needs where an absolute limit of averaging over a reference period of 17 weeks would apply.
