Job Description

Job Purpose
You will contribute to a project focusing on community food, diet inequalities, and the food system within Glasgow working with Dr Ada Garcia and Dr Stephanie Chambers. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute towards all research activities relating to the design, data collection, and research publications as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
Perform the following activities in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Principal/Co Investigators:

  1. Plan and conduct assigned research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators in accordance with the project deliverables.
  2. Undertake desk research which will include a review of current literature.
  3. Assist in preparing and submitting study materials for ethical approval.
  4. Actively undertake qualitative research which will include conducting interviews with members of local communities and be responsible for conducting data analysis and interpretation.
  5. Contribute to the design of a survey and work in collaboration with the research team with the design and delivery of public engagement activities.
  6. Collaborate with a range of key stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery of the research, including community organisations.
  7. Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
  8. Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of The University of Glasgow/School/Research Group, including contributing to publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
  9. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops across the research Group/School/College/University and wider community.
  10. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research project.
  11. Contribute to public engagement and knowledge exchange activities to ensure research evidence reaches and influences a broad range of stakeholders.
  12. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in community food.
  13. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
  14. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Principal Investigator.
  15. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.

  1. A1. SCQF Level 10 [Honours degree] in social sciences, health sciences, psychology or a related subject.
  2. A2. Theories and application of qualitative research methods.

Desirable
  1. B1. A postgraduate qualification in social sciences, public health, research methods, or other relevant subject area.
  2. B2. Specialist knowledge of community food or public health nutrition.
  3. B3. Understanding of the issues affecting food insecurity.
  4. B4. Knowledge of creative methods for participatory social research.

  1. C1. Skills in data interpretation and dissemination.
  2. C2. Excellent communication skills [oral and written], including public presentations and ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely.

  1. E1. Sufficient relevant research experience [or equivalent] appropriate to an early career researcher.

  3. E3. Experience of scientific writing.
  4. E4. Experience of working with qualitative data.
  5. E5. Experience of writing for a range of audiences including academic and non-academic.
  6. E6. Experience of presenting research findings in a range of formats, for example, presentations, infographics, social media, and other creative outputs.

Terms and Conditions

Salary on appointment will be Grade 6 £33,482 - £35,116 per annum.
The post is full-time starting July 2025 and has funding for up to 2 years.
This position requires availability to work, on average, two Saturdays per month. In return, an alternative day off during the week will be provided.
