Job description

Overall Purpose of the Job

A 20-month post of Research Assistant as study co-ordinator is available with Dr Michael Hughes (Clinical Senior Lecturer & Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist). This role will support and co-ordinate the internationally (12 centers, 3 continents) recruiting ‘100 DU’ study. This will include initial setup (e.g., successfully achieving all the required regulatory approvals and contracts between the individual sites), and the day-to-day running of the study (e.g., monitoring and chasing data return).

Our international multicentre longitudinal study of 100 SSc patients with active DU from a diverse geographic, cultural and ethnic sample of patients will facilitate the comprehensive capture of patient-reported, clinician assessed and imaging (photography and nailfold capillaroscopy) data from 100 SSc patients with active DU over 20 weeks.

The aims of the ‘100 DU’ study are to:

  1. Elaborate and validate a novel PRO instrument for assessing the severity and impact of SSc-DU.
  2. Understand the aetiopathogenic drivers of different types of DU and their relationship to the lived patient experience of SSc-DU, and to benchmark DU healing (including impact of complications and treatment), in the modern era.

The candidate will be experienced in working as a part of a team in a study co-ordination role and all the required regulatory approvals.

What you will get in return:

  1. Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  2. Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  3. Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  4. Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  5. Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we support an inclusive working environment and welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
