We are seeking to recruit a Band 6 Research Assistant in Inclusion and Migrant Health to work on the Advancing Equity for children and young people seeking asylum and refugees: a blueprint for Generalisable Interventions (AEGIS) project. This is an NIHR-funded project hosted by UCLH, in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Institute of Child Health-Great Ormond Street UCL, Barts NHS Foundation Trust, University of Salford and the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be based in the Children and Young People's Division at UCLH and will work within the Paediatric Infection and Migrant health team. The postholder will work with our transdisciplinary team, comprising clinical, academic, policy, migration, law, and social science expertise, to develop an evidence and policy-informed programme of work to reduce inequity for unaccompanied children and young people seeking asylum and refugees (CYPSAR-U) and other marginalised children and young people (CYP). The role is expected to include contribution to both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the work, and the main output will be delivery of a scoping review of existing relevant literature and interventions. There is scope to extend the role subject to funding.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience of information governance, privacy and security issues regarding using confidential records in a secure setting
  • Working in multi-disciplinary teams and multi-institutional and international collaborations
  • Experience of PPI/engagement work
  • Experience of working with children and young people in research, clinical or other settings
  • Experience of research with vulnerable and/or minoritised groups

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience of data management
  • Writing, presenting and explaining technical and/or scientific reports to a wide range of scientific and lay audiences
  • Ability to conduct high quality research and produce publications
  • Experience of qualitative research skills, in particular systematic and narrative reviews.
  • Experience of grant writing

Communication

  • Evidence of effective verbal communication
  • Evidence of high level of written communication skills (e.g. academic reports and publications)

Personal and People Development

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment to the project
  • Commitment to comply with data security and governance

Responsibilities towards promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion

  • Demonstrable understanding of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and/or Knowledge of the NHS obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duties and the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • MSc in relevant discipline (e.g. statistics, epidemiology, economics, health informatics) or related experience of quantitative and qualitative research
  • PhD in relevant discipline or related experience
  • Knowledge in the area of child and adolescent public health / healthcare / inclusion health

Salary: £44,806 to £53,134 a year per annum inclusive of HCAS
