Job description

Location: West Bromwich, West Midlands

Hours: 36.25-hour working week (Monday to Friday, 08:45-16:30)

A vacancy has arisen within the R and D department of a specialist chemical manufacturing company for a Research and Development Chemist. This is a hands-on role focused on organic synthesis at bench scale.

The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and costing initial customer enquiries, developing robust chemical processes suitable for scale-up, and producing small-scale samples for both internal and external assessment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform hands-on organic synthesis at bench scale.
  2. Evaluate customer enquiries and determine feasibility and cost.
  3. Develop scalable and reliable synthetic processes.
  4. Prepare small-scale samples for testing and customer evaluation.

Candidate Profile
  1. A PhD in Chemistry or a BSc degree (minimum 2:1) in Chemistry.
  2. A strong passion for organic chemistry.
  3. Ideal for a newly qualified graduate or PhD holder seeking their first role in industry.
