Role: Relief Peters Machine Operator

Working Hours: Monday - Friday am - pm and pm - pm, alternate weeks

Location: Carlisle, Church Street, Cumbria, CA TG

What will this role achieve?

As a Relief Peters Machine Operator your main responsibility is to work as part of a team in the packing and feeding of biscuits in line with site requirements. When required, you will stand in as a Peters Machine Operator. Peters Machine Operators are accountable for preparing cream, operating the Peters Machines, and producing quality standard products in accordance with standing operating procedures.

The role requires a proactive individual with a ‘can do’ attitude who is committed to maintaining high standards in production whilst working as part of a dynamic team. Must want to progress within your team as you will be trained to step into the permanent role when needed. Will be required to move lines across the factory as and when required.

What will be your key deliverables?

1. Manually pack products within specifications (includes bending, lifting, stretching)
2. Visually check for foreign matter / hazards.
3. Ensure quality of biscuits being packed within product specifications.
4. Ensure adherence to all quality and safety standards.
5. Work to a high standard, enabling plants to achieve planned output.
6. Report any problems to the Supervisor.
7. Ensure housekeeping and hygiene standards are maintained.
8. Support the Supervisors in the introduction and support of any improvement initiatives.
9. Provide a co-ordinated link with all production processes on the line.

Peters Machine Operator responsibilities

1. Ensure product is produced to the correct specification weight, thickness, cream percentage, and turn of scale and log specifications at regular intervals.
2. Operate Peters Machines at correct settings.
3. Ensure the production of waste is minimised.
4. Ensure safe working practices are followed at all times aligned to area SOP’s.
5. Communicate with other Peters Operators, Peters Supervisor, Process/Packing Supervisors, Team Managers, and Maintenance Dept.
6. Take an active part in Supply Chain Excellence including tiered meetings and the SCE boards.

Essential

1. Basic numerical and literacy knowledge
2. Manual dexterity
3. Basic communication skills
4. Basic problem recognition
5. Excellent team working skills
6. Be able to multi-task and have the drive and tenacity to work under your own initiative
7. Positive attitude and willingness to drive change within operational environment

Desirable

1. Previous experience is desirable but not essential; training will be given.
2. Knowledge of manufacturing environment and of HACCP and safe systems of work.
3. Understand zonal Key Performance Indicators (production targets, waste levels, and line performance).
