Job description

Jami, the Jewish community’s mental health charity, is excited to announce its integration with Jewish Care, effective from April 1, 2024. As part of this collaboration, Head Room Café, our social enterprise hub, will continue to thrive under the operation of Community Trading Ltd.

We are looking for a passionate and empathetic individual to join our food and beverage team as a Relief Barista to cover absence.

Head Room Café goes beyond serving coffee and great food; it is a community hub that provides free daily groups and activities, mental health support, education, and connection to everyone in the local community. As a Barista, you will play a vital role in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, contributing to the vibrant community spirit that defines Head Room.

What you will be doing:
  1. Welcoming and serving each customer with warmth, respect, and kindness.
  2. Building positive relationships with customers, fostering a sense of community.
  3. Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks and bar food.
  4. Sharing information about Jami and our community-focused work.
  5. Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, utensils, and equipment.
  6. Adhering to all food safety and health safety requirements.
  7. Taking customer orders and processing payments.
  8. Organising and managing stock levels.
  9. Opening and closing the café following established procedures.
  10. Attending training related to food and drink, as well as mental health.
Working Hours:

This post is for a Relief Barista on a 0 hours contract per week and may include some Sundays. Additional hours may be required to meet business needs, including evenings to cover events. The Café is open from 8am to 4pm and is closed on Saturdays.

What you will need:
  1. Basic food hygiene qualification or willingness to undertake and pass this qualification.
  2. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.
  3. Awareness of fire procedures.
  4. Knowledge of Health & Safety practices.
  5. Knowledge of food safety practices.
  6. Some knowledge of COSHH.
  7. Good literacy, verbal, and numeracy skills.
  8. Ability to work as part of a team or independently without direct supervision.
