Job description

About the Role

Release Train Engineer

We are seeking two experienced and dynamic Release Train Engineers (RTE) to join our Agile transformation team within Solutions & Automation.

The Opportunity

As a crucial member of our organisation, you will play a pivotal role in driving the successful implementation of Scaled Scrum across our projects. You will lead and facilitate the agile release train, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and delivery excellence across multiple scrum teams.

You'll be a servant leader, focusing on providing the support needed by the teams and ARTs to be self-organizing and self-managing. As a servant leader, you will listen to and support teams in problem identification and decision-making. Create an environment of mutual influence. Understand and empathize with others. Encourage and support the personal development of each individual and the development of teams. Support the teams' commitments. Be open and appreciate openness in others.

Pay, benefits and culture

We want to provide transparency on the salary range while encouraging applicants with varied levels of experience to apply. The starting range is around £68,800, but if your expectations exceed this, we'd still love to hear from you.

Your rewards package includes a 10% bonus, private healthcare, market-leading pension scheme, customizable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, healthcare cash plan, tech vouchers, product discounts, experience days, and more.

Flexible working means you can work from home (if you wish) and we'll provide a suite of IT equipment to ensure that you can work remotely comfortably and effectively. The teams are widely spread across the UK therefore you'll be mostly working from home with some occasional travel to one of our offices in London, Brighton, Exeter, and Doxford.

At EDF, everyone's welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We're committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability, and supporting social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We'll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop Scrum Master Capabilities: Serve as the primary mentor and coach for the team of Scrum Masters, fostering their growth by enhancing their Agile and Scrum expertise; providing guidance, training, and best practices to elevate their skills and drive continuous improvement across the tribe.
  • Facilitate PI Planning: Serve as the chief orchestrator and facilitator for the Agile Release Train (ART) during PI planning; ensuring planning readiness including planning scope, context, content, and logistics for the event.
  • Support PI Execution: Track progress and ensure the ART meets its definition of done by coordinating impediment removal and addressing escalations where the team are unable to independently resolve. Facilitate synchronisation events and coordinate planning efforts across tribes.
  • Coach the Agile Release Train: Coach with powerful questions to uncover what's essential, guiding others to tap into their knowledge and expertise. Coach the ART in agile ceremonies, roles, and practices.
  • Optimise Flow: Establish pull systems to optimise the flow of value through the ART. Establish flow measures and map the value stream to enable continuous improvement of flow. Reducing or eliminating cross-team dependencies.
  • Improve Relentlessly: The relentless pursuit of perfection has always been one of the core tenets of agile. While unattainable, striving for perfection leads to continuous improvements to products and services. Collaborate with teams to implement solutions and process improvements, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and adaptive problem-solving.

Who you are

  • Facilitation and Collaboration: Proven experience in facilitating complex meetings, workshops, and planning events. Ability to foster collaboration, alignment, and effective communication across teams and stakeholders.
  • Leadership and Influence: Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence, motivate, and guide teams toward achieving common goals. Experience leading in a servant-leader capacity.
  • Agile Knowledge: Familiarity with agile principles and values, as well as knowledge of Scrum framework and related practices. Preferably including familiarity with ART (Agile Release Train) and PI (Program Increment) planning.
  • Problem-solving: Adept at identifying challenges, evaluating options, and implementing practical solutions. Ability to navigate and resolve impediments to keep the train on track.
  • Strong Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Metrics and analysis: Proficiency in using metrics and data analysis to drive decision-making and track progress.
  • Continuous Improvement mindset: Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, improvement, and staying current with Agile and SAFe practices.

If you're excited about this opportunity but don't meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply. Your skills and experience may be a great fit for the role!
