  • Advising on a broad spectrum of corporate, regulatory, privacy and governance issues;
  • Contributing to multi-business and jurisdictionally strategic projects, new products and corporate reorganisations.

This role will have a particular focus on the UK, but may involve matters arising across EMEA or globally. The ideal candidate will be able to understand jurisdictional differences and nuances, and tailor their advice accordingly.

This is a hybrid role and we are open to discussing flex work opportunities with candidates.

You will help us build resilience and execute day to day deliverables at our best. Join us if making your mark in the financial services industry from day one is a challenge you are up for.

What you will be responsible for

As Regulatory Legal Counsel, Assistant Vice President you will be:

  • Advising State Street management and corporate functions on legal and regulatory requirements across a broad spectrum of topics, including governance, outsourcing, data protection, AML, the UK Senior Managers and Certification Regime, and CASS;
  • Reviewing corporate policies and procedures to ensure that they meet local legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Providing legal advice on regulatory reforms to help internal clients understand their impact and design appropriate implementation plans;
  • Instructing and managing external counsel;
  • Collaborating with and seeking input from lawyers in the US and across EMEA, ensuring consistency of approach wherever appropriate given legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Advising on the regulatory aspects of corporate re-organisation and expansion projects and cross functional or jurisdictional corporate projects.

Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you will need to be:

  • A solicitor qualified in England and Wales with a current practising certificate;
  • With at least 3 years post qualification experience at a large international law firm or financial services organisation.

Essential skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Good research skills and sound logic and reasoning capabilities;
  • Comfort working with unfamiliar topics and areas of law.

Desired skills:

  • Able to communicate legal advice on complex issues clearly and concisely;
  • A self-starter, able to work independently (seeking support when needed) and able to juggle competing priorities;
  • Experience of working on cross border projects or transactions;
  • A collaborative working approach, able to build networks and work effectively on multi-stakeholder projects and to integrate different cultural perspectives;
  • Sufficient gravitas and credibility to be able to engage with senior stakeholders autonomously;
  • Prior financial services regulatory experience is desirable, but more important is a curious mindset, excellent legal skills, and an ability to quickly pick up new topics.

Are you the right candidate? Yes!

We truly believe in the power that comes from the diverse backgrounds and experiences our employees bring with them. Although each vacancy details what we are looking for, we don’t necessarily need you to fulfil all of them when applying.
