Job description

Band 5 Registered Nurse, 36 hours per week, Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join our well-established team on Hazel Ward (Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit) at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. We believe that happy, supported staff provide the highest standard of care. The successful candidate will benefit from working alongside a supportive, experienced team. ESAU is a 16/17 bedded unit accepting acute surgical referrals from GPs, A+E, Outpatient clinics and Same Day Emergency Care. The unit also accommodates some gynaecological emergencies, A+E trauma, and some ENT emergencies.

The ideal candidate will thrive in this fast-paced, exciting environment. We welcome applicants from experienced and newly qualified nurses, and previous newly qualified staff have highlighted the level of support.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to be responsible for their own team of patients and duties include completing admission packages, medication administration (oral, sub-cutaneous, intravenous, and intra-muscular), care of patients pre and post-operatively, management of naso-gastric tubes, drain management, wound management, stoma care, and discharge planning.

The successful applicant will be committed to providing excellent nursing care to our diverse group of patients. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and increase your knowledge, experience, and skills on a fast-paced ward area.

Successful applicants must be able to provide high-quality safe nursing care which is driven by patient experience and evidence-based practice.
