The role
ERS is a leading underwriter of a wide range of specialist motor insurance products. The Regional Underwriter’s primary responsibilities include executing our underwriting strategy and appetite, contributing to our financial plans, underwriting complex risks, and managing broker relationships.
Success in the role requires technical expertise in our products and collaboration with other business functions to deliver first-class propositions to our market.
Key responsibilities
- Providing input to the development of our underwriting appetite based on market knowledge and executing our pricing and underwriting strategies.
- Managing portfolio performance through analysis of results and executing our selection and pricing strategies.
- Underwriting a range of risks within our stated appetite and refining our underwriting approach to leverage market opportunities.
- Working with brokers to develop relationships and extract quality business in line with our risk appetite.
- Using market knowledge to enhance relationships with key partners and acting as a technical referral point.
- Providing feedback to Product Managers and Pricing teams to improve our risk pricing models.
Qualifications, skills and experience
This role carries financial responsibility and requires technical expertise. Candidates should demonstrate:
- Understanding of underwriting strategy and risk appetites to achieve financial targets.
- Extensive technical knowledge of the product(s) and market dynamics.
- Underwriting, risk selection, and pricing skills for optimizing financial performance.
- Commercial awareness to identify opportunities for enhancing financial outcomes.
- Understanding of pricing practices to improve pricing capability.
- Interpersonal skills for building and maintaining relationships.
- Awareness of our control environment and compliance provisions in the UK motor insurance market.
