Regional Operations Manager

The Opportunity
The Regional Operations Manager reports to the Regional Director who is responsible for the South of England and South Wales Business units which include offices in London, Southampton, Clevedon and Swansea. This Role will be based in the Swansea office and will be the operational Lead for the South West Regional Business.
The person will have overall responsibility for the management and success of all operations including projects, generally through Contracts Managers, but in some instances directly. This role will be supported by a Regional Senior Commercial Colleague and the Pre Construction team based in this region.
What you will be doing
- Safety, Health and Environmental - ensure safety risk is eliminated or reduced in construction, ensure that the company and client safety systems are set up, implemented, adhered to and reviewed at all stages. This Role should be considered as the most senior leadership role in terms of these matters in the business unit and will be expected to demonstrate the correct supporting behaviours at all times.
- Operational staff resource deployment (in conjunction with Contracts Managers and Project Managers).
- Team and individual development - recruiting, coaching, managing, mentoring and developing members of the project teams in their personal development; undertaking annual appraisal for direct reports; building effective project teams using the Tilbury Douglas MyCompetancy platform.
- Quality management to ensure zero defect handover to programme.
- Assist with the establishment and delivery of the objectives and targets set by the TDE Management Board; Ensuring all projects collate and achieve KPI benchmark objectives.
- Contributing to and ownership of project and regional reporting.
- Ensuring QA compliance with company Business Management Systems including Asite.
- Ensuring supply chain quality and support; building relationships with key suppliers.
- Maintaining effective and long-term relationships with Project and Operations Teams and their representatives/advisors; introducing new supply chain partners to the Tilbury Douglas business.
- Ensuring projects are constructed to meet the contractual requirements and Contractor’s proposals.
- Ensuring that construction programmes are formulated and developed, monitoring and ensuring progress against these.
- To build successful delivery teams.
- Proactively support commercial, SHE, design and aftercare teams.
- Keeping the senior Management team fully informed at all times and manage a live Risk Management plan to mitigate both project and business risks.
- Review all design for buildability, long-term durability and profitability.
- To support and be familiar with own role and responsibility in respect of Business Continuity Planning. Ensuring that team members are also aware of the plans and communicates same.
- Being proactive in the identification and resolution of problems.
- Work winning – supporting the pre-construction team with involvement in providing relevant resources and technical expertise to bids, bid management and attending settlement reviews. In particular supporting the Frame work relationships the business holds.
- Wider business – engagement with other Regions to share best practice, supporting others in areas of personal expertise and knowledge sharing.
What we will need from you
- Degree/HNC/D level in MEP Construction Management or similar.
- Experience in the delivery of a range of projects types and values.
- Experience in the delivery of both D&B and traditional projects.
- Experience of delivering projects through NEC/bespoke forms of contract.
- Good knowledge of building and general construction techniques and methodology including MMC.
- An understanding of the design and procurement process.
- Must hold a full UK driving licence for regular travel.
- Hold relevant CSCS card or Management HSE competency qualification.
- Technical MEP construction knowledge and commercial appreciation.
- Ability to manage, mentor and lead individual members of the construction team.
