The Post Holder (ELRHPSW) will provide and promote peer support and recovery services to people recovering from their problematic use of alcohol and drugs. This will be achieved by supporting people in the different phases of their recovery from initial engagement with services and the recovery community through to options for education, training, volunteering and employment.

GCA deliver services over 6 days per week and throughout Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire.

The role of Head of Diploma and Training is to be responsible for the development, co-ordination and management of COSCA counselling training and the delivery of the Diploma in Integrative Counselling.

GCA offer a number of COSCA validated trainings each year. These include the very successful COSCA Counselling Skills courses, with two options of study including in person and online. COSCA Counselling skills course is a requirement for many courses offering advanced studies towards qualifying as a counselling professional. In addition, we offer a Certificate in Counselling Supervision, and the course Further Steps in Counselling and Group Counselling Skills as well as COSCA SACC Behaviour Change Course.

The Diploma in Integrative Counselling is a part time 2-year course validated by COSCA. It is delivered in the evening and during the weekend in person in the GCA offices. The course is 400 hours of taught study with additional requirements for students of 40 hours personal therapy to be undertaken and a 100-hour clinical placement with supervision at a ratio of 1:6.

The Diploma has four cohorts of students (two First Year and two Second Year) and approximately 90 students with the majority attending classes and the rest completing clinical placement. Many of our students are supported to undertake their clinical placement at GCA. In addition to undertaking the Diploma, students are offered the opportunity to undertake a period of further study to complete a certificate in Counselling People Towards Behaviour Change. Many of our Graduate students go on to work in the counselling professions and we are pleased that several former students have found roles within GCA.

The Head of Diploma and Training will support the CEO and Senior Management Team with strategic and commercial strategy to help GCA be sustainable and grow, prioritising achieving our mission and goals. This will be undertaken in conjunction with other GCA Senior Management Team duties.

Organisation Profile:

Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) aims to reduce alcohol and drug related harm, and risk of harm, at an individual and community wide level, through a long-term, asset-based approach to changing the culture of alcohol and drug use. It does this by delivering a range of interventions and services such as alcohol counselling, alcohol brief interventions (ABIs), employability support and groupwork as well as delivering a comprehensive training portfolio, including Addiction Awareness, COSCA Counselling Skills and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling.

GCA has been delivering specialised trauma informed alcohol counselling since 1965 to support those drinking at harmful and hazardous levels and who wish to make a positive change. The counselling approach is integrative and aims to address the presenting alcohol problem but also work with the inevitable accompanying life problems related to it. In our experience around 65% of individuals who access GCA will not have engaged with statutory services or recovery communities. GCA services have expanded to include a range of holistic services to support individuals in recovery from drugs and/or alcohol. Services we provide include; counselling, wellbeing support, a women’s only service for survivors of gender-based violence, and an LGBT health and wellbeing service. Currently GCA delivers services in Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire.

Opened Early 2025, we are seeking an exceptional individual to be part of our team at our brand new Care Inspectorate registered residential rehabilitation service in West Aberdeenshire. You'll be supported by a charitable organisation with extensive experience in launching and managing top-tier registered care services.

Aligned with our vision of empowering individuals impacted by substance use and associated needs, we're collaborating with national and local partners to deliver safe and effective residential care services. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that every individual we support receives the highest quality of care and guidance.

We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity to support individuals from across Scotland to access Rae House Residential Rehabilitation service. The role is Monday to Friday.

You will have experience of working with people with multiple needs including addiction and strengthening recovery capital. Having experience in working with multiple Agencies and nurturing relationships you will be able to confidently provide guidance to individuals, families and stakeholders in relation to accessing and developing residential rehabilitation pathways into the service.

You will ensure clients feel supported from the point of referral through to their admission to the residential service, offering responsive support to both the individual and their family members. Completing robust assessments designed to prepare individuals for a rehab stay. You will also meet individuals on their day of admission and offer support post-admission, ensuring they are welcomed into the therapeutic community welcome house programme according to their individualised needs. You will be positive, innovative and motivational with the ability to work to your own initiative, as well as part of a large multi-disciplinary team.

About You

To join us as an Assessment and Referral Worker at Rae House, you will need:

  • Experience of completing comprehensive assessments and risk management plans
  • An understanding of the complex issues presented by individuals within drug and alcohol recovery.
  • An understanding of working with individuals in the substance use sector or related field.
  • The ability to be innovative and be flexible in order to meet the needs of the service.
  • Be able to work effectively with multi-agencies, whilst maintaining the excellent reputation of the service.
  • Excellent record keeping and organisation skills.
  • Knowledge of adult protection is essential as you will be working with vulnerable adults in a residential setting.

There may be flexibility to occasionally work remotely in this role depending on service need.

About the Roles: Access to Industry (AI) is one of 8 partners delivering the new justice National Voluntary Throughcare Programme (NVTP) which is led by Sacro. We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate self-starters to support men as they transition from custody into the community. Your aim will be to support positive outcomes for the individuals you work with.

The NVTP works with males, females and young people across Scotland. These roles are focused on recruiting caseworkers, working one-to-one, to support men returning to Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders areas of Scotland.

Key responsibilities to clients will include:

  • Delivering effective pre-release support and planning.
  • Conducting needs assessment for individuals.
  • Establishing trusting and genuine relationships, rooted in trauma-informed principles.
  • Participating in multi-agency meetings.
  • Delivering gate liberation support.
  • Completing risk assessments and adhering to safeguarding best practice.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely records on case management system.
  • Maximising engagement through assertive outreach support.
  • Identifying appropriate onward referral routeways at the earliest appropriate point.
  • Enabling a mutually agreed support exit plan.

You will do this by:

  • Working collaboratively with the wider AI and National partnership team to deliver relational support for people accessing the NVTP, supporting team meetings, and service improvement.
  • Upholding high quality service standards.
  • Undertaking required role training (including that provided by the NVTP and AI).
  • Being flexible and responsive to service demand including working across cohorts and regional areas as required.

AI Team: You will play a part in the wider team of AI through attendance at internal meetings and participation in shared services across the teams.

Health and Safety & Property Management: You will ensure a healthy and safe environment and the protection and best use of property and equipment by implementing and observing AI policies and procedures.

Other Requirements: The post holder will be expected to manage their own caseload and work with minimum supervision partly in an outreach capacity.

By joining Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) as a Supported Self-Management Training Facilitator, you can be the difference between people just surviving and really living.

You will be part of Scotland’s leading charity providing support to people with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live life to the full again. Our Community Healthcare Support Services form a nationwide network of local services, including our Supported Self-Management programme, community support groups, nurses, volunteers and one-to-one support teams helping families adjust to life with a heart or lung condition or after a stroke.

We are looking for a Supported Self Management Training Facilitator to join our amazing team in the Lothian area. This role is focused on making sure that people affected by chest, heart and stroke conditions have access to our evidence-based Chronic Disease Supported Self Management programme, enabling people with our conditions to live with, and beyond, their new reality.

Through delivering our Supported Self Management programme, you will support people to develop the skills, knowledge and tools to confidently self manage their health condition and live as independently as possible. You’ll also help people to get back to doing the things that are important to them – from simple things like walking to their local shop following a stroke, to returning to a sky-high hobby of gliding!

You will co-facilitate the delivery of our 6-week Chronic Disease Self Management workshops with another trained facilitator and line manage any volunteers who support the delivery of these sessions. You will lead and motivate participants within a group setting to take control of their lives in a positive way, raising their confidence and empowering them to develop the skills to set and achieve goals, make strong and supportive connections with their workshop peers and make meaningful changes to their lifestyle to support their ongoing self management journey.

Candidates don’t need to have medical knowledge, or previous experience as a Chronic Disease Supported Self Management Facilitator, as full training is provided. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude towards people with disabilities and long-term conditions and an understanding of the challenges faced by people with chest, heart and stroke conditions and Long Covid. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to engage with others confidently and deliver key information, clearly.
