Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and adaptable individual to join our Health Centre as a Receptionist / IT Support. In this dual role, you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing a welcoming and efficient service both in person and over the phone. You will direct patients to the appropriate healthcare professional, ensuring a positive experience and smooth access to services.

In addition to your reception duties, you will support the IT and Communications Officer by providing first-line technical support to both clinical and non-clinical teams. Your responsibilities will include troubleshooting IT issues, ensuring the proper functioning of hardware and software, and maintaining smooth operations of our systems.

Main duties of the job
As a Receptionist / IT support, you will ensure the proper functioning of the Health Centre's IT systems and equipment, escalating any ongoing issues to the IT and Communications Officer. Collaborating with both clinical and non-clinical teams, you will help maintain smooth operations across the Health Centre. You will also provide general administrative assistance as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency of the reception team and the practice.

Mount Pleasant Health Centre (MPHC) is an innovative GP practice in Exeter City, caring for over 17,500 patients. We are one of the largest training practices in Devon, most of the partners are GP trainers, involved in the education of student nurses, medical students, and a variety of doctor training posts. We have an excellent relationship with our league of friends charity and our Patient Participation Group, keeping us patient-focused and working together on opportunities to benefit patient care. We are the Lead Practice of NEXUS Primary Care Network (PCN), that consists of five GP Practices and covers a population of 43,000 patients. We have several PCN ARRS staff working on site at the health centre providing an excellent multidisciplinary working environment. We are a modern dynamic practice and strive to balance our continued evolution with the provision of excellent family medicine.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
IT Support

  • Provide frontline support to the team, addressing day-to-day IT queries to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist staff in submitting IT support requests to our service provider, and track progress to expedite issue resolution.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve less complex IT issues using troubleshooting techniques to minimise downtime.
  • Support the installation and configuration of computer hardware and software as required, ensuring all components are set up and operational for the practice teams.
  • Collaborate with the IT & Communications Support Officer on daily tasks such as resolving queries, supporting teams with IT consumables usage, performing backups, and managing security tasks like user audits and software updates.
  • Prepare workstations for new staff members, ensuring hardware and software are up to date.
Receptionist
  • Administer prescriptions, both general and repeat, according to practice guidelines.
  • Handle general emails and provide professional, prompt responses.
  • File and retrieve patient paperwork and medical records as needed.
  • Perform data entry, allocate and collate information in line with practice procedures.
  • Register new patients and update systems accordingly.
  • Follow up on hospital or laboratory results and manage tasks forwarded by GPs.

Person Specification
Experience Essential

  • Minimum 2 years experience in an IT support role or role with IT frontline support duties
  • Experience working in a GP practice or similar primary care business
Qualifications Essential
  • English and Maths qualification either GCSE A to C or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Desktop OS
Other requirements Essential
  • Meets DBS reference standards and has a clear criminal record.
