Job description

Join Aston Law School – Shaping Future-Ready Lawyers

Aston Law School’s mission is to deliver a distinctive legal education that blends academic rigour with practical insight, producing graduates who are ready for the future. We’re proud to be part of Aston University – The Guardian’s University of the Year 2020 – and hold Gold awards in the Teaching Excellence Framework and Athena SWAN, demonstrating our commitment to teaching excellence, gender equality, and social mobility.

We foster a vibrant, supportive research environment and welcome applicants with expertise in any area of legal research. Applications will be assessed based on research outputs, grant activity, impact, and future plans. Candidates for Readership roles should also demonstrate mentoring and leadership in research and across academic life.

At interview, candidates will be asked to discuss how their research aligns with the Aston 2030 Strategy, especially in promoting justice and addressing social inequality in ways that engage with diverse communities locally and globally.

Our undergraduate law programme reflects our forward-thinking approach. Alongside core legal subjects, we offer innovative modules designed to equip students with key skills demanded by modern legal professions – including problem-solving, legal project management, and interdisciplinary learning. Our teaching and research benefit from close links with other schools within the university, and strong collaborations with legal professionals and businesses.

We’re looking for enthusiastic scholars who are excited to contribute to our inclusive, supportive academic community.

What We Offer:

  • A dynamic campus in Birmingham city centre with excellent transport links.
  • Generous leave: 30 bookable days plus 13 bank holidays/university closure days.
  • Comprehensive training and development opportunities.
  • Family-friendly policies.
  • Discounts at various retailers and services.
  • On-site gym and pool with discounted staff membership.
  • Additional information on benefits and rewards can be found on our website.
