As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call. Your working week will typically be 5 days over 7, retaining the same 2 days off each week. Early morning and evening work will sometimes be required, to reflect the nature of Gull monitoring work.
The post is a physically demanding one within a challenging environment.
Interview date: Thursday 24th April
Accommodation is provided to the postholder for the proper or better performance of their duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules.
The Farne Islands, already one of Europe’s most important nature reserves, attracts a significant number of visitors and extensive media coverage every year. The whole of the Northumberland Coast, renowned for the quality of its beaches and dramatic stretches of unspoilt coastline, offers a sense of freedom and discovery.
Working alongside the Area Rangers and Rangers, you’ll focus on developing an accurate monitoring program for Gulls and predation. You’ll supervise and guide volunteers and Assistant Rangers to meaningfully contribute to this program. You’ll be a reliable and proactive member of the team, with a strong grasp of health and safety and compliance. You’ll also be comfortable working alone with a diligent, consistent and flexible approach to performing fieldwork.
You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them rather than rushing away to the next task.
You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
