Job description

Do you have broad knowledge and understanding of sound, communications and sound-related disciplines in a theatre environment? Do you want to be part of a collaborative, ambitious and dynamic team?

We are looking for a Radio Mic Technician to assist & support sound work, with fellow members of the department, in ensuring that effective and efficient technical support is in place for all productions, specifically in the upkeep and coordination of the radio microphones and practical props for a given RSC production.

Reporting to the Head of Sound, key areas of responsibility include:

  • To support sound designers by creatively assisting in the implementation of the sound design with experience & knowledge of Radio mic placement, disguise and maintenance.
  • Assist with the prep & maintenance of multiple radio microphones, mics, IEMs and Practical Sound Props.
  • DISH, fit in hair and collect radio microphones, IEMs, access haptic devices and practical sound props.
  • Create / learn a Radio Running Plot and perform any cues during the show – Tx/Rx pack swaps, monitor costume/wig changes to ensure that microphone placement and condition is optimal.
  • Modify plots during tech as required and manage battery condition and recharging for all radio devices.

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following knowledge and experience:

  • A working knowledge and understanding of sound, communications radio microphone placement & maintenance and sound-related disciplines in the theatre environment.
  • Working knowledge of Sure Axient software.
  • A knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and to pursue knowledge of RSC procedures and their implications in RSC Venues.
  • The ability to work on one's own initiative and within a strong team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 2 months based in Stratford upon Avon. You will be working an average of 48 hours per week, 6 days a week.
