Radiation Policy and Strategy Team Leader
Location: PO12 2DL, located in Alverstoke, Gosport with free onsite parking.
Package: £47,860 - £56,730 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)
Working pattern: DRPS operates a 10-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. The successful candidate will be required to attend site.
Role Overview:
AWE is currently recruiting for a Team Leader for Defence Radiation Protection Services, the trusted Partner of high-quality radiation science for UK Defence and Security. Based in Gosport on the South Coast, the Radiation Policy and Strategy team provides radiation protection advice and services to MOD, wider government and commercial customers, in the UK and overseas.
The successful candidate will lead a diverse team responsible for providing policy advice and assistance with issues including regulatory compliance and effective safety management of work involving ionising and non-ionising radiations. The team also delivers a number of training packages to operational frontline commands and is responsible for the management of the Radiological and Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation (RNERO), maintaining and building a suitably qualified and experienced capability able to respond to a variety of emergency situations.
You will be accountable for delivering the functional capability and demand to current and future programme requirements, applying the sub-function's strategy, and providing effective guidance as the main contact point for team members. You will be responsible for maintaining a technical capability that delivers critical skills and resources through coaching and developing the team at a local level. You will empower your team to deliver team and personal objectives aligned to customer requirements safely and securely, taking corrective action to improve performance where necessary via appropriate management interventions.
The role will be office-based with the opportunity to observe practical elements with the team. After a period of training, there is also the opportunity to join our on-call capability supporting our input to MOD emergency responses which comes with an additional incentive.
You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to deadlines.
Please note that you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years to apply for SC clearance which is a requirement for this role and the interviews will be conducted in-person at INM Alverstoke on 1st and 2nd of May 2025.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at DRPS Alverstoke.
