Job description

DESCRIPTION

The Decommissioning Technical team is responsible for processing and facilitating large scale legacy Data Center equipment through a liquidation process to ensure that targeted equipment is ready to be removed off premises. Team members will also process large volumes of customer data to ensure that all customer data is sanitized and properly managed.

We are currently expanding our infrastructure team and are looking for a Rack Decom Technician. As part of the Rack Decom team, you will be responsible for processing and facilitating legacy Data Center equipment through a liquidation process to ensure that targeted equipment is ready to be removed off premises. You will also process large volumes of customer data to ensure that all customer data is sanitized and properly managed. You will develop familiarity with basic PC components/hardware (HDD/SSD/Flash/Removable storage media/Ram/CPU/Motherboard/Input-Output devices).

This is an entry-level position and qualified candidates do not require intimate details of software operations or networking protocols. There may be an element of shift-based work and physically demanding work required with this role.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Decommissioning and processing of legacy hardware out of the data center facilities
  2. Adhere to security and safety best practices in the data center
  3. Unpacking/repacking fragile electronics
  4. Relocating and moving of large enterprise equipment
  5. Creating/attaching labels and barcodes
  6. Hard drive installation, removal and destruction
  7. Basic Networking hardware removal/installation and clearing of configurations
  8. Updating progress through a web ticketing system or to a team lead
  9. Escalating to senior technicians and management as needed/required
  10. Familiarity with basic PC components/hardware: HDD/SSD/Flash/Removable storage media/USB/FireWire/Esata/Ram/CPU/Motherboard/Input-Output devices
  11. Works well with others and communicate/promote cross team functionality
  12. Ability to perform duties constantly and without deviations unless otherwise instructed

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. High school or equivalent diploma
  2. Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair
  3. Experience in networking

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
  2. Experience working in a critical environment and/or Data Centre
