About The Role:

We are looking to discover the next future star of the pitlane. The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team are looking for a Race Team Apprentice working with the Mercedes Heritage team at Silverstone.

Heritage is a foundation area where you will learn from past and present technicians working on the very first modern era silver arrow all the way up to the current race car. During the apprenticeship, the successful candidate will gain experience preparing anything from Professional Go-Karts to Formula 4 single seater race cars. Here you will learn everything from EV to ICE in the automotive road car sector whilst working towards achieving a Level 3 Light vehicle maintenance technician qualification.

The successful candidate will be guided through a 42-month apprenticeship scheme overseen by the Number 1 Mechanic in conjunction with the Mercedes Benz Academy Milton Keynes.

Due to the nature of the role, whilst working with the Mercedes Heritage Team you may be required to work additional hours and attend events, some of which can be at short notice.

Key Skills to be Developed:

• On the job Training working to a high technical standard on a large number of different mechanical assemblies.
• You will learn to understand, interpret and build assemblies using engineering drawings.
• You will be required to meet all assignment and training deadlines.
• Learn to use all the process and procedures which are used to ensure quality and consistency at every stage during assembly process.
• Learning to become the best in the Pitstop environment.
• Working across specialist areas of the business to build experience.
• Safe working to within general Safety, Health and Environmental guidelines with specific attention and working to Departmental Risk Assessments and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will have:

• A strong interest in the field of engineering, combined with a curiosity to understand mechanical systems and must be able to understand basic mechanical principles.
• A keen interest in the build and servicing of mechanical assemblies and how they work.
• Every day is a learning day in Heritage, so you will bring an open mind to communicate and collaborate effectively with your colleagues.
• We strive to be a team that consistently wins championships – to do so requires each of us to be self-driven, dependable and flexible.
• The ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner is essential – as are the confidence to put your hand up and ask when something is unknown or ambiguous, and the humility to admit mistakes when they arise.
• Reliable and flexible to support on events as and when they arise.
• A confident personality prepared to build trusting relationships with colleagues.
• Strong drive and self-responsibility who is looking for continuous improvement.
• A positive work ethic with a ‘can do, team focused’ approach.
• Computer literate and able to learn new software quickly.

• A hands-on approach with a professional mindset.

Our Level 3 apprenticeships require the following:

• You must have an existing and valid right to work for the duration of the apprenticeship in the UK. Applicants who require a visa to work in the UK should be aware that our apprenticeships are ineligible for sponsorship.
• Availability to complete the level 3 apprenticeship up to a 42-month duration.
• Evidence of having been resident in the UK for 3 years prior to taking up the apprenticeship in September this year or candidates who qualify for an exemption as stated here: Apprenticeship funding rules - GOV.UK.
• At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) with results of 5 and above. Please note that three of the GCSEs must be Maths, Science and English.
• We will check you meet the criteria as part of the application process as this will need to be evidenced before you can start the programme.
