Job description

Role: Quantity Surveyor

Location: Harlow Essex

Description:

We are recruiting on behalf of an esteemed organisation who is looking for a new Quantity Surveyor to join the team at a renowned engineering company to take full financial and commercial responsibility for a portfolio of contracts ensuring that we cost effectively deliver contracted services as well as additional services.

What will you be doing?

  1. You will generate studies to estimate materials, time, and labour costs pre and post contract as required as well as report any opportunities you have identified with existing and new clients and provide information and assistance to estimating team to allow them to tender/quote.
  2. The role will also require you to prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, schedule of rates etc.
  3. Collaborate with estimation specialists to develop accurate cost projections and ensure smooth progression into contractual phases, including participation in stakeholder meetings and on-site assessments when required.
  4. Coordinate and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing for both tender submissions and active projects, including comprehensive analysis and documentation.
  5. Evaluate and develop strategic solutions for commercial challenges while maintaining thorough risk assessment protocols.
  6. Monitor and enforce contractual compliance across all project engagements, ensuring adherence to established terms and conditions.
  7. Complete financial reconciliation of supplementary works within the same accounting period as their execution.
  8. Oversee and coordinate quantity surveying personnel (where relevant) to optimize resource allocation across contracted projects.
  9. Oversee vendor and subcontractor relationships throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial inquiry through to completion and final payment release.
  10. Recognize and capitalize on variation opportunities to enhance revenue streams while mitigating project delivery risks.
  11. Generate performance reports aligned with organizational KPI standards to track commercial and financial metrics.
  12. Coordinate all aspects of financial administration, including cost tracking and revenue forecasting for contracted works.

What are we looking for?

  1. You will have a proven background as a Quantity Surveyor in the Mechanical and Electrical industry ideally within a Data Centre environment.
  2. You will be able to work on multiple projects at once worth a range of values whilst demonstrating leadership and management style.
  3. Ideally hold a Quantity Surveying and/or Construction / Engineering Qualification (HND or Degree Level).
  4. MRICS.
  5. CSCS card holder relevant to role.
  6. Can demonstrate excellent analytical skills and has experience of Document Management Systems, SharePoint, Dynamics CRM, Asta Powerproject, Excel, Anaplan or similar/equivalent packages.
  7. Maintain knowledge of the construction and engineering industry's statutory requirements, methods, differing building contract types and processes.
  8. Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
