Job description

Our client based in Mosstodloch has a current vacancy for a Quantity Surveying Assistant to join their team.

This position is temporary for approx. 12 months; however, there is a possibility of this being extended beyond this point.

Reporting to the Business Manager, the main purpose of this role will be to assist with the development of a high quality and efficient Quantity Surveying service.

Main Duties to expect (not limited to):

  1. Assist with any administrative tasks as delegated by the Building Services Management team.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate information is being delivered to both the Business Manager and BSM team.
  3. Undertake any training as required and/or train and develop other staff members.
  4. Prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
  5. Assist in conducting risk assessments and advise on procurement strategy.
  6. Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor tenders.
  7. Prepare accurate budget cost reports, making clear recommendations.
  8. Liaise with the Procurement Team and other appropriate departments to ensure all documentation and tendering procedures are undertaken.
  9. Provide advice on contractual claims and disputes.

Essential Experience:

  1. Post qualification experience in a Contractors QS environment (local authority beneficial however not essential).

Education/Qualifications:

  1. HNC/HND level or equivalent in QS essential.
  2. BSc in QS or equivalent (Desirable).
  3. CSCS Card would also be highly beneficial.

The ideal candidate should:

  1. Display a willingness to work in a demanding position, where a flexible approach is required.
  2. Be able to accept delegation.
  3. Have good organisational skills.
  4. Have knowledge of policies, issues, and procedures relating to the delivery of a QS service.
  5. Be good with numbers and have an analytical mind.
  6. Be competent in the use of MS Office packages.
  7. Be happy to travel to sites when required to do so.
  8. Have good communication skills both orally and written.
  9. Have the ability to relate well to customers and colleagues alike.
