Job Description

The Quality Specialist trains under the Quality Manager and will continue to strive for the highest of quality standards for all parts of the storage and distribution process. The Quality Specialist must be flexible to training requirements. The ideal trainee will be experienced in food storage and distribution, have a solid understanding of all Safety & Food Safety Requirements, and be tenured in quality assurance procedures. The following are responsibilities including, but not limited to:

Facility Exterior & Maintenance
  • Review exterior for landscaping needs, waste management, pest activity, and overall building condition.
  • Verify Master Security & Building Checklist is current & maintain routine checks.
Product
  • Look for allergens in non-allergen areas. Verify color coding on racks.
  • Review monthly the Food Fraud Mitigation Plan for changes and effectiveness.
  • Review product hold log, verify in rack, pull data from GP for hold-in-place.
Quality Assurance
  • Complete glass inspections monthly. Verify register is current. Document glass breakage incidences.
  • Verify chemicals on the floor are in the SDS book and all secondary containers labeled.
  • Understand and assist in SQF related activities including reviewing and updating BRC documents on a set frequency.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and formulate corrective actions related to customer complaints and internal process improvements.
  • Conduct internal audits (receivers, warehouse, 2nd sign process, etc.), record findings, collaborate across departments to determine corrective actions, assign target completion dates, and work with the team to achieve set goals.
  • Ensure employees are following GMP policies daily along with all Safety rules.
  • Pest Control Log Books: sighting log current, service report loaded and current, and document/discuss continuous improvement ideas with PCO.
  • Attend and actively participate in HACCP and Internal Audit meetings.
  • Review hygiene and housekeeping records and document any non-conformances.
  • Attend and support Mock Recall process, incident management plan review, and customer complaint documentation & resolution.
  • Provide management and oversight of the Company’s technical document repository (Tracegains), including COA formatting/troubleshooting.
Management & Communication
  • Exhibit adherence to all Safety & Food Safety Requirements.
Role Specific Requirements
  • HACCP certification.
  • Internal Audit certification.
  • Minimum 3 years working in food safety distribution or manufacturing.
  • Forklift certification and operation (Reach truck and Stand-up lift).
  • Must have an exceptional customer service attitude (for both internal and external customers) and successfully exhibit flexibility to meet customer’s needs.
  • Must have the ability to work well in a team and independently (at times with little to no supervision) with organization, good communication skills, and a very strong work ethic.
  • Maintain an exceptional attendance record.
  • Ability to work with and support others in a positive way.
Physical Demands

Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position which are required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. These physical demands include:

  • Ability to stand for extended lengths of time.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, grasping, typing, reading, talking, and hearing. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Man lift operation to reach heights of 20 feet.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, at least to chest height from the floor.
  • Ability to work within the work environment characteristics experienced while performing the essential functions for this job.
