Job Title: Goods In Inspector

Location: 2 Doxford Drive, South West Industrial Estate, Peterlee, SR8 2RL

Reports to: Quality Manager

To support our continued growth and maintain our high standards, we are looking for a Goods In Inspector to strengthen our quality assurance processes.

Role Overview

The Goods In Inspector is responsible for the inspection and verification of all incoming materials, ensuring compliance with internal and external specifications. This role is crucial in maintaining quality at the source, reducing defects, and ensuring right-first-time production. The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers and internal teams to drive continuous improvement and prevent quality issues before they impact production.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Inspection & Verification:
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections on incoming materials, including lithium-ion cells, PCBAs, plastics, and metal components.
  • Verify documentation such as Certificates of Conformance (CoC), Test Reports, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Reject and document non-conforming goods using formal quality processes and communicate issues to relevant teams.
  • Supplier Quality & Compliance:
    • Assist in maintaining supplier scorecards, tracking delivery performance, defect rates, and responsiveness.
    • Support supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
    • Collaborate with Procurement and Supplier Development to drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Quality Systems & Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and traceable inspection records within the Quality Management System (QMS).
    • Utilise ERP systems (IFS) to log receipts, track quality events, and manage non-conformance reports.
    • Support internal audits and regulatory reviews (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, etc.).
  • Collaboration & Improvement:
    • Work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Production, and Engineering to ensure robust incoming quality.
    • Participate in investigations and structured root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa).
    • Propose and implement improvements to inspection processes, tooling, and standard work.

    Essential Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a quality inspection, quality technician, or supplier quality role within manufacturing.
    • Strong understanding of inspection tools and techniques, including calipers, micrometers, CMM, and test jigs.
    • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, and control plans.
    • Experience handling high-spec components such as lithium-ion batteries, PCBAs, and precision mechanical parts.
    • Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., IFS, SAP, Oracle) and quality event tracking modules.
    • Familiarity with ISO 9001; awareness of IATF 16949 (training provided if needed).
    • Proven track record in managing supplier quality, conducting audits, and making data-driven decisions.

    Desirable Qualifications & Experience

    • Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Quality Assurance, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing.
    • Trained in structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone).
    • ISO 9001 internal auditor or IATF 16949 training.
    • Familiarity with ESD-safe handling procedures and battery safety standards.
