Job description

Position Title: Quality Control Inspector (Coatings)

Reports To Position: HSEQ Manager and Operations Manager

Circa: Shift pattern - £22PH - £30PH + OT rates (additional lodge money if required)

Location/Duration: Glasgow region - 8 months (with potential to extend)

Function: Responsible for monitoring and reporting compliance with agreed quality standards and procedures for the preparation of substrates and subsequent application of coatings and surface treatments through primer, stripe coating, intermediate coats and top or finish coats. Recommend methods to improve overall quality, reduce defects and assist in analysing quality concerns. Ongoing project.

Duties (not limited to):

  1. Perform inspections and testing in accordance with the guidance specified in the relative Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and appropriate references i.e. project Specification(s); internal (Work) Instructions; industry standards; reporting formats etc.
  2. Ensure overall end to end compliance with Project Specification(s) and Client requirements.
  3. Ensure that material is stored and handled in accordance with manufacturer's requirements and data sheets are available, when required, material traceability is maintained and that the correct material is used.
  4. Monitor performance of our painting / blasting personnel to ensure “Applicators” are carrying out their works to the contracted requirements and where required, equipment being used is in a serviceable condition.
  5. Ensure inspection and test equipment is serviceable before use, with “In Calibration” period current and that inspection personnel are knowledgeable in its use.
  6. Ensure blast medium and coating materials conform to project specifications.
  7. Ensure surface preparation blast profile/cleanliness meet requirements.
  8. After the designated curing activity for overcoating or completion, conduct a visual inspection together with specified non-destructive and / or destructive tests.
  9. Prepare daily reports on agreed format(s) for the status of work and progress.
  10. Responsible for timely inspection during all aspects of preparation and coating works and in being proactive in the prevention and resolution of non-compliance issues.
  11. Liaising with Client Representative(s) for inspection and data output.

Requirements:

The Quality Control Inspector (Coatings) shall be qualified to ICORR (Institute of Corrosion) level I / level 2 with previous coatings industry experience, part of which shall be related to a coatings inspection regime associated with a large project. The Inspector shall be knowledgeable in relation to the Objectives listed and:

  1. Construction health and safety awareness.
  2. ISO9001 quality systems awareness.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Personal desire, motivation and commitment.
  5. Construction related industry experience, either site or office based.

Applicants will be considered if they have worked within a coatings supervisory role and hold an ICorr Level 1 or 2 qualification (or equivalent NACE Level 1; CWSIP Level 3 etc.) or has been involved in the application of industrial coatings for a while and recently obtained one of these qualifications. Individuals will also be considered who have recently completed one of the above with at least three years in the coatings application industry.
