Job description

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust runs three nurseries providing care for pre-school children, mainly for NHS families and some local community children. The nurseries focus on high-quality, compassionate care to help children meet their Early Learning goals.

You will be based at Rainbow Nursery, Crawley and you will be part of a dedicated team focused on nurturing young minds and helping shape their bright futures as a nursery nurse in one of our NHS workplace nurseries, supporting parents while they work.

Main duties of the job
  • To support the Nursery Management team
  • To assist in the daily operation of the playroom for the assigned age group.
  • To support other Nursery nurses in their daily duties.
  • To work in partnership with parents and outside organisations.
  • Provide high-quality physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for all children at the nursery and contribute to service development

Job responsibilities

Communication and working relationships

  • Communicate with external organisations, agencies, childcare professionals, OFSTED, and parents using various methods, both verbal and electronic, and report back to the Nursery Management Team.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff members on various subjects.
  • Attend meetings when applicable.
  • Interact with all children at their level.
  • Collaborate within a team, offering leadership, support, and delegation to all staff in the designated age group.
Main responsibilities
  • Be a representative of the nursery and SCFT always.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Maintain the standards of the nursery in conjunction with SCFT and Nursery policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Health and Safety is consistently upheld in the designated playroom, nursery, and hospital premises.
  • Work with the Nursery Management team and Estates Department to promptly address building and maintenance needs for safety.
  • Undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery.
  • Provide an engaging curriculum of activities appropriate for the children in the Nursery, aligned with Ofsted requirements and tailored to each child's individual learning needs.
  • Ensure the inclusion of all children.
  • Have a good knowledge of child development, child legislation, Early Years Foundation stage, and keep abreast of current trends in early years care.
Parents
  • Support and attend parents evenings and Parent Nursery Group meetings when required.
  • Liaise with and support parents, carers, and family members during their child's nursery attendance, aiding the child's learning and development.
  • Record and report any accidents or incidents involving children or staff in the playroom at any time, including outside Nursery hours, to the Nursery Management Team.
  • Ensure a risk assessment for activities undertaken within the allocated playroom and nursery premises.
  • In the absence of any team members in the allocated playroom, ensure all children observations and next steps are covered.
  • Report to the Nursery management team any child reportable sickness.
  • Undertake training as required and become involved in special projects as appropriate.
  • Support the development of the nursery teams within the allocated playroom.
  • Report to the Nursery management team any conversations or messaging from parents regarding any finance dealings.
  • Promote good staff relations, support, maintain an efficient working team and effective communication within the nursery and the allocated playroom.
  • Attend team meetings inside and outside working hours and help write the agenda.
  • Support Trainee Nursery Nurses, students, and other unqualified workers while in the nursery.
  • Identify and meet own and others training needs within the allocated playroom.
  • Support the Management Team in completing nursery inductions with all new staff, visitors, and students.

Qualifications
  • NVQ level 3 or above

Experience
  • Experience of children ages 0 - 5 years.

  • Awareness of health and safety.
  • Embedded knowledge of 'Early years foundation stage'
