Job description

Our client has an opportunity for a QC Inspectors - Structural to join them on an initial 6-month contract basis. We are looking for high-calibre QC Inspectors with Welding Inspection and NDT Certifications to join our client's QC team on the Type 31 Frigate Programme.

Role: QC Inspectors - Structural
Location: Rosyth
Contract: 6-months Renewable.
Hourly rate: + Radius Allowance for candidates who live outside of the area.
Hours: Mon-Thurs (36 hrs per week) OT available in the evenings & weekend paid at time and a half.
Clearance required: Must be able to be fully Security Check (SC) Cleared.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate certified proficiencies (Trade Test).

What you'll be doing:

Working in a fast-paced shipbuilding environment:

  • Structural inspection and acceptance of ships' structures.
  • Provide close liaison with Lloyds Register and other inspection and verification bodies as required.
  • Manage the ITR inspection regime and maintain completion records within CMS.
  • Manage and coordinate LR inspections and their inspection diary.
  • Conduct product verification audits and quality investigations on board ship as required.
  • Where qualified, carry out Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant or Ultrasonic Inspection of Welds and Components.
  • Update and communicate inspection metrics in line with day-to-day activities.
  • Complete inspection reports in a timely manner.
  • Develop working relationships with colleagues.
  • Work will require dexterity and the ability to work at height and in confined spaces.

Technical experience & qualifications required:

  • Qualified to a recognised trade standard (Fabrication/Welding/Shipwright/Marine Engineering) and a relevant academic level (HNC/SVQ Level 3).
  • This post requires extensive experience in multi-disciplines within a manufacturing environment with both fabrication and structural experience.
  • Work experience within a process-based validation context or within a compliance-based environment is desirable.
  • Proven experience in conducting inspections.
  • Good working knowledge of shipbuilding practices, standards and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to read and interpret ship construction drawings & specifications.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to collate and present information at appropriate levels.
  • Minimum CSWIP 3.1.
  • Preferable PCN Level 2 in either MT or PT or UT.
  • RI PCN Level 2 preferable.
  • IPAF preferable.
  • Any additional NDT Certifications or Coatings inspection certifications.
  • At least 5 years continued experience in Welding Inspection and NDT.
