Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
A Quality Assurance Engineer contributes to planning, design, development and execution of tests to assure high-quality software solutions, that meet business and user needs, working with a variety of tools and understanding best practice patterns. This includes:
- Helping to deliver and improve Quality Assurance solutions for high-quality software solutions working in collaboration with other Quality Assurance practitioners.
- Taking responsibility for Quality Assurance of small services or parts of larger services across all stages (design, build, assure, deploy, operate and continually improve) in-line with best practice.
- Working with Lead Engineers and practitioners across other disciplines to understand designs, and maintain up-to-date, repeatable test scripts.
- Building effective working relationships with client counterparts in your practitioner domain.
- Helping to structure and provide assurance for the work of other Quality Assurance practitioners.
- Collaborating with DevOps engineers to implement CI/CD pipelines for supporting ongoing software quality assurance.
- Collaborating with Engineering, User-Centred Design, Service Operations, Delivery Management, and Data Science practitioners to achieve objectives and successes within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Playing an active role in the Engineering discipline, driving innovation, application of best practice, and contributing to Community of Practice events.
As a QA Engineer at Informed you will have:
- Experience working in Quality Assurance across the software development lifecycle, including both functional and automated testing.
- Experience working with Cloud-based solutions and technologies (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
- Experience working in an agile and Continuous Integration based environment (Scrum, Jira, Confluence).
- Effective communicator who can explain complex information to clients and other members of the team.
- Willingness to maintain relevant, up-to-date practitioner skills through continuing professional development and training, including accreditations/certifications.
Experience working with some, or all, of the following testing tools and technologies:
- JMeter, BlazeMeter, BrowserStack
- Cucumber/Gherkin
- WAVE
- OWASP ZAP / Dependency Check
- SonarQube
- Selenium, Cypress, Playwright
- Browser developer tools
Experience in non-functional Quality Assurance practices, including:
- Performance benchmarking (latency and throughput)
- Resilience testing (chaos and fuzzing)
- Scalability testing
- Accessibility Testing
- Security (Penetration) Testing
- Integration and User Acceptance Testing
- Operational Acceptance Testing, Business Readiness Testing
Desirable skills and experience
- Experience working in a professional services/consultancy environment preferred.
- Experience of the GOV.UK Digital Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice preferred.
- Experience taking responsibility for Quality Assurance on small projects or parts of larger projects.
- Experience structuring and assuring work for less experienced members of the team.
