We are recruiting two permanent Public Health Advisers and one 12-month fixed term/secondment Public Health Adviser (maternity cover) to the Public Health Science Service in Public Health Scotland.
About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland launched on 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. Public Health Scotland aims to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, where life expectancy improves, and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.
The Posts:
The Public Health Science Service is made up of approximately 40 staff, committed to improving population health and reducing health inequalities. We focus on the social and economic determinants of health and health inequalities, employing three main approaches: data and intelligence; evaluation; and evidence synthesis. These three posts sit in the data and intelligence function of the Service. We use information from a range of sources to better understand the health of the Scottish population, the factors that affect it, and contribute to evaluation, monitoring, and policy reviewing activity.

The Candidate:
Your work will involve leading in the provision of evidence-informed public health intelligence to address key public health needs; building relationships with a range of stakeholders to enable meaningful engagement; contributing to the overall planning and development of the team’s work; and providing advice, guidance, and leadership around national data sources to ensure that they best meet public health intelligence needs. Public Health Scotland is Scotland’s lead national agency for improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of all of Scotland’s people. We work in a wide range of policy areas, focusing on reducing inequalities and improving health and wellbeing in Scotland.
Location and Working Pattern:
The posts are based in either Gyle Square, Edinburgh, or Central Quay, Glasgow. We are currently hybrid working; therefore, you will be expected to spend time in both PHS offices as well as have the option to work from home. A laptop, monitor, keyboard, and mouse will be supplied.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week. PHS is a flexible employer, and we are happy to discuss requests for alternative working patterns. During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business needs, you may be required to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
