Minimum of twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last three (3) years performing services similar in scope to those defined herein.
Responsibilities:
Provide psychological services to mentally ill inmates/wards under the guidance of the Senior Psychologist, Supervisor, and/or the Chief of Mental Health.
Maintain order and supervise patient-inmates/youths' conduct, ensuring safety of individuals and property.
Serve as the clinician-of-the-day and be available for on-call duties during scheduled work days for patient emergencies.
Work effectively and cooperatively with staff of all classifications to enhance professional relationships.
Conduct initial mental health evaluations, including criminal, psychological, and substance abuse case history.
Perform clinically sound suicide risk evaluations and document findings properly.
Meet with mentally ill inmates/wards for crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
Identify signs and symptoms of psychiatric disorders to assess, diagnose, and manage symptoms.
Apply psychological assessments in the selection, administration, scoring, and interpretation of tests.
Write clinical reports regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment plans.
Consult on complex cases with supervisors and treatment team members.
Document all care provided to inmates, including face-to-face contacts and IDTT meetings.
Monitor inmate progress using Subjective Assessment Plan Evaluation (SOAPE) formatted progress notes.
Apply community standards of practice for psychological treatment modalities.
Perform mental status exams (MSE) in interviews.
Examine prior mental health records and other documents to assist in diagnosis formulation.
Establish collaborative ties with community programs and agencies.
Conduct mental health education and develop resources for mentally ill and sex offender inmates/wards.
Assist patient-inmates/youths in applying for entitlement benefits and community services.
Participate in IDTT meetings and compile data from audits related to mental health program requirements.
Provide information to support staff for data entry.
Provide written reports and consult with the Board of Prison Hearing and other staff.
Provide information to relatives/caregivers concerning patients after receiving signed release of information.
Develop therapeutic relationships with patient-inmates/youths and families to enhance treatment delivery.
Represent the department at formal and informal settings regarding mental health matters.
Maintain order and supervise the conduct of individuals in the correctional facility.
Assist in implementing new programs for treatment and rehabilitation of patient-inmates/youths.
Comprehend and adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and policies regarding patient confidentiality.
Adhere to mandated reporting requirements regarding California Psychologists.
