Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

About us

Health is one is an organisation dedicated to supporting mental health, emotional wellbeing and psychological resilience. The Exchange Counselling is the independent children and young people division of Health is one, dedicated to supporting young people, children and their families in the development of psychological resilience and wellbeing.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a PWP to work within our psychological wellbeing team in schools throughout the East Ayrshire area providing evidence-based treatments for children and young people presenting with psychological and emotional issues. This will mainly involve individual one-to-one work and may include involvement in the provision of group interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a range of therapeutic interventions (counselling, group work, psychoeducation, psychological coaching) to support the psychological wellbeing of clients.
  • Maintain a daily record (i.e., keeping it up to date) of appointment attendance using Health is one systems.
  • Maintain a daily record of Clinical Notes using the Health is one systems.
  • Support all therapeutic work using the Health is one required measurements.
  • Competent at and actively involved in promoting psychological wellbeing and the supportive services of Health is one within your place of work (e.g., assemblies, classrooms, events).
  • Attend Manager meetings with management, schools and team.
  • Where appropriate, prepare, attend, and contribute to Triage discussions for Primary School Children & Primary School Staff.
  • Provide an individualised support/action plan with reasonable recommendations to both parents/carers and schools.
  • Prepare, complete forms and attend personal review meetings as organised by manager.
  • Build & maintain positive collaborative relationships with School staff.
  • Be involved in parents’ evenings and family community events.

You will work collaboratively with other agencies and mental health professionals to provide a service to young people. You will also contribute to service development and will participate in service evaluation within the area as directed. There will be a service manager who will provide support and guidance in your work. You will work collaboratively with the client support team who manage referrals and coordinate your diary.

Essential Training & Qualifications

  • Counselling qualification at Diploma level (or equivalent level) which is recognised by BACP, COSCA or an equivalent body.
  • Diploma level (or equivalent) qualification in counselling, psychotherapy, or counselling-psychology which has been accredited by a recognised professional body (BACP, BPS, UKCP or similar).
  • Member of BACP or equivalent.
  • Hold or be working towards BACP accreditation as a counsellor.

Experience - Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience of working with children or young people in a formal setting; e.g. a school, out-of-school.
  • Knowledge and awareness of the issues relevant to working within an educational and learning context.
  • Knowledge of responsibilities in terms of Safeguarding and Child-Protection.
  • IT competence.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Willingness and ability to collaborate with others within a school setting.
  • Approachable.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Flexible.

Other

  • An enhanced CRB disclosure will be required.

The post-holder must:

  • Undertake travel to counselling locations as required.
  • Be able to cope with unpleasant behaviour including verbal aggression and occasionally to work in conditions sub-optimal for clinical activity.

Hours of work / Salary

  • Term time required to work 38 weeks of the year.
  • Start date would be January 2025.
  • Number of days per week will be 5 days per week.
  • Salary would be £25,415.25 FTE, term time salary £21,309 based on 5 days.
