Highly Specialist Psychodynamic Psychotherapist / Psychologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Psychodynamic Psychotherapist or Clinical / Counselling Psychologist with a specialism in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy to join our Mental Health and Wellness Team psychological provision in Barking & Dagenham. The post is a permanent 0.8 WTE (4 days per week) position. This post involves integrated working with multi-disciplinary colleagues from Barking & Dagenham Wellness Teams, carrying out psychological assessments, psychodynamic treatment, offering supervision and consultation.

The Psychological Professions team has a range of specialist interests. The post is based at Barking Community Hospital to enable integrated working with care co-ordinators from Barking and Dagenham Mental Health and Wellness Teams.

We work with Community Psychology to support the pathway and the people who need it to thrive. Trauma informed care is imperative for staff and patients alike. The successful candidate will be joining the borough at an exciting time of transformation where they'll have the opportunity to contribute to shaping meaningful services.

Main duties of the job

  1. Supporting the multidisciplinary Mental Health and Wellness team in their work and in the provision of psychologically informed interventions.
  2. Exercising clinical responsibility for undertaking psychological assessment, psychological treatment and discharge planning of clients in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team.
  3. Assisting in the management and supervision of trainee and/or qualified psychotherapists, teaching and coordinating of psychological therapists, clinical associates in psychology (both qualified and in training), trainee psychologists, assistant psychologists.
  4. Participating in the development and implementation of high standards of clinical care ensuring the service provided is needs led, compliant with national guidance and is viewed positively by service users.

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 p.a. pro rata for part time).

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,192 to a maximum of £2,011 p.a. pro rata for part time).

Job responsibilities

  1. Conducting high quality psychological assessments, treatments, and systematic outcome measurements for service users under the care of the Mental Health and Wellness Team, with a particular focus on those with complex emotional needs.
  2. Providing specialist consultation on complex cases presenting with significant distress associated with anxiety, mood disorders, and enduring difficulties that may have been given the diagnosis of personality disorder.
  3. Working in close collaboration with other psychology services to ensure a smooth pathway for service-users and their families, under the direction of the Psychological Professional Leads.
  4. Ensuring that a high quality, timely, accessible and evidence-based psychological service is available to all service users who need it, under the direction of the Psychological Professional Leads.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy training to Masters level leading to full registration with UKCP, BPC or BACP OR Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology HCPC with post doctoral psychodynamic training

Experience

  • Experience of working with high levels of risk and severe mental health difficulties
  • Experience of providing specialist psychodynamic assessments (brief screening and in-depth interventions to patients with complex problems).
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of working with service users from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Experience of offering group interventions

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of highly complex clinical reports and assessments
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professionals and non-professionals
