Job description

PRU Teaching Assistant

Location: Small Heath, Birmingham
Duration: Full-time, ongoing until the end of the academic year
Salary: £85 – £95 per day

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Small Heath, Birmingham. You’ll be providing support to students with diverse academic and behavioural needs, ensuring they receive a high-quality, inclusive education. This full-time role will run until the end of the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with SEMH, ASD, MLD, PMLD, and visual impairments.
  • Acting as a positive role model and encouraging engagement in lessons and activities.
  • Assisting teachers in delivering the curriculum, tailored to individual student needs.
  • Ensuring a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment.
  • Working with a team to implement individual education plans and strategies.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teaching Assistant or relevant SEN experience.
  • Experience with PECS and Makaton communication methods.
  • Knowledge of ASD, SEMH, MLD, PMLD, and other SEN needs.
  • Valid Level 1 Safeguarding certificate and recent school-based references.
  • Full enhanced DBS (or on the update service).
  • A valid photo ID (passport or driving license).
