Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Special Educational Needs as a PRU Teaching Assistant? Do you have experience supporting students with complex needs in a PRU setting? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are seeking a dedicated, experienced, and compassionate PRU Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team at a Pupil Referral Unit located in Luton. This PRU provides support to students who face challenges in mainstream education. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to work in a supportive and nurturing environment in Luton, where every day offers new challenges and opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning programs to children with a range of SEN, including behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.
  2. Provide 1:1 and small group support to ensure students engage with their learning and reach their full potential.
  3. Support students with managing their behaviour and emotional well-being using effective strategies and techniques.
  4. Help to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  5. Liaise with the teacher and other professionals, including SENCOs, to monitor and assess student progress.
  6. Encourage students to develop social skills and build confidence both in and outside of the classroom.
  7. Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contribute to review meetings.

Requirements:

  1. Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly in a PRU, Alternative Provision, or similar environment.
  2. Strong understanding of various SEN needs and effective support strategies.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Patience, empathy, and a calm approach to managing challenging behaviours.
  5. Ability to work well within a team and follow the guidance of the teaching staff.
  6. A proactive, flexible, and solution-focused attitude.
  7. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) or equivalent experience.
