Job description

Job Title: Prototype Wire Person
Sector: Defence & Aerospace
Location: Blandford Forum
Full Time: Monday - Friday with an option of a 4-day working week & Flexible hours.


Prototype Wire Person Duties:

As a Prototype Wire Person you will be responsible for producing looms/cable assemblies & test equipment items to the required build standards and agreed time frames from minimum information & by liaising with in-house engineers.

  1. Production of wiring looms/cable assemblies: comfortable with crimping, soldering, lacing & splicing to aerospace standards
  2. Wiring of cabinets and fixtures
  3. Assembly of PCBs (desirable but not essential)
  4. Extensive knowledge of cable types, connectors, cable assembly techniques and applications
  5. Liaising with in-house engineers with technical queries and provide build solutions for prototype assemblies
  6. Understanding of engineering drawings, wiring schedules and circuit diagrams
  7. Able to solder to a consistently high standard
  8. Familiar with a variety of mil spec connectors, cable production techniques
  9. Work to IPC 620 Class 3
  10. Work to deadlines
  11. Own standard wiring tools (specialised tools will be supplied)
  12. Work independently
  13. Willing to provide on-site support at customer premises when required
Prototype Wire Person Background Experience:
  1. Prototype assembly experience in similar work essential (ideally within the Defence / Aerospace sector)
  2. IPC 620 certified
  3. ESD awareness
  4. Demonstrated capability by skills test
  5. Full driving license
  6. Possess all requirements for successfully meeting formal Security Check (SC) criteria
