Propulsion Facility Projects Lead Planner

Location: Whitley
Contract: Inside IR35
Rate: Circa £32.00 per hour, umbrella

We are seeking a Propulsion Facility Projects Lead Planner to join our Facilities & Infrastructure team. This is a pivotal role supporting the Project Management Office (PMO) and ensuring the successful planning, integration, and management of schedules across a diverse portfolio of capital investment projects. With an annual spend exceeding £30 million, projects range from site development and building construction to equipment design and integration across multiple locations.

You will work closely with Project Managers and vendors, providing key schedule insights to ensure planning excellence, schedule adherence, and effective risk and change management throughout the project lifecycle.

Propulsion Facility Projects Lead Planner role:

  • Deliver comprehensive project schedules and ensure adherence to time, cost, and quality targets.
  • Ensure integration and optimisation of vendor inputs and schedules.
  • Drive consistency in planning excellence, risk management, and change management across the portfolio.
  • Support the delivery of milestones and critical paths in line with gateway delivery processes (e.g., RIBA).
  • Produce and manage management-level reporting and KPIs for leadership reviews.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities of the Propulsion Facility Project Lead Planner:

  • Develop, manage, and integrate project and programme schedules across the entire lifecycle from conception to completion.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure the alignment of critical project timelines and milestones.
  • Ensure schedules are accurate, adaptable, and tailored to different audiences, providing clear visibility for stakeholders.
  • Critique and challenge vendor schedules, providing guidance to optimise inputs and delivery timelines.
  • Implement effective risk and change management processes across all phases of the project.
  • Facilitate the compilation and presentation of management-level reports and KPIs to support decision-making.
  • Manage the planning and scheduling software tools, ensuring accurate data entry and schedule visualisation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience of the Propulsion Facility Project Lead Planner:

  • Project Management qualification, e.g., PRINCE2, APM.
  • Advanced proficiency in scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Wrike, or Planview,
  • Experience with project planning and delivery within the construction and/or technology sectors,
  • Skilled in the creation and integration of multiple, concurrent project plans, with an ability to identify and manage the critical path and dependency logic.
  • Experience with planning projects through the full lifecycle, from conception to handover and completion.
  • Competency in compiling management reports and KPIs for leadership teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including working with external vendors.
  • Knowledge of gateway delivery processes (e.g., RIBA) to assist in planning project lifecycles.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Experience in the construction or technology sectors, specifically in managing capital investment projects.
  • Previous involvement in the development and implementation of milestone processes and tracking methods.
