The Children’s Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We’re there for children every step of the way.

This role sits within our Youth Impact domain, which provides group and one-to-one support for children who urgently need assistance. Your role will help us develop innovative practices in the Birmingham area.

We are seeking an experienced project worker with a passion for excellence in practice and service delivery. As the project worker, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality group and one-to-one work that not only meets the needs of young people in our community but also gives them an opportunity to shape it.

A key part of this role will be your ability to manage and support our Circle of Friends Programme in the Birmingham area within The Children's Society's performance management procedures, in accordance with current legislation and safe practice, and to be the safeguarding lead for the service.

In order to be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Substantial experience of working with vulnerable young people from diverse backgrounds, both 1-1 and in group settings.
  • Experience of multi-agency working and partnership working.
  • Awareness of issues affecting young people who are at risk of criminalisation, exploitation, grooming, going missing, and the associated risks they are exposed to.
  • Knowledge and experience of methods for building positive relationships with young people, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Experience in managing, leading, and supporting individuals and teams dealing with complex and sensitive issues, as well as safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

The Children’s Society runs over 100 local services that help thousands of young people who desperately need our support. We campaign to get laws and policies changed to make children’s lives happier and safer.

Every day we’re changing the lives of children in this country for the better – and with your help, tomorrow we can be there for even more.

The Children’s Society is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people that we work with. As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, including the disclosure of criminal records and vetting checks. We ensure that we have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services.

Therefore, candidates applying for work in our Children and Young People’s Directorate will be required to complete an “Employment history template” document prior to the interview. The fully completed document should be uploaded by the candidate alongside their CV.

The closing date for applications is at midnight on Monday 21st April 2025.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 1st May 2025 at JQ Modern, Birmingham.
