An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Officer within the Special Projects Team. Special Projects are based within the Business Support and Management function of the Environment and Transport Department.

The team delivers a wide range of projects that support the management team and wider department. These can include medium term financial projects that aim to reduce costs or increase income, business service and customer improvements, procurement projects.

One of the key roles of the team is the liaison with Elected Members, MPs, Parishes and Communities.

The postholder will have a diverse and varied range of non-construction projects to deliver that often require careful stakeholder management and partnership working.

About the Role

This role will require the post holder to work independently with an allocated caseload of projects; as well as supporting projects that are managed by the Team Manager, Members and Communities Liaison Manager and Senior Project Manager.

You will already have some experience as a project officer with a track record of delivering successful and varied projects that are relevant to this role. You will need to demonstrate a positive attitude to problem solving and able to overcome barriers. Applicants will need to demonstrate proven capability of delivery in a large organisation and be able to work across teams and departments as part of a project management team with minimum supervision and support.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  1. Support the operation, maintenance, and development of both departmental and service systems including the provision of reports and management information to managers and stakeholders. This will involve identifying and delivering service improvements through working collaboratively with both internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  2. Lead and support the setup, delivery and closure of a variety of business improvement and efficiency projects across the Department in line with corporate standards.
  3. Undertake business process mapping on behalf of managers, through the documentation of existing and new processes, through working with service teams and using appropriate process mapping software.
  4. Use significant knowledge of team & departmental performance to set up systems to monitor and identify service delivery issues or concerns and proactively liaise with managers to address concerns.
  5. Provide assistance in relation to specialist tasks relative to efficiency and improvement projects and activities using appropriate methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Thinking, and Kaizen.
  6. Support Special Project officers, project managers and delivery managers in the production and maintenance of project plans, RAID logs and evaluation processes.
  7. Liaise proactively with team, department and corporate colleagues to provide appropriate challenge and resolve complex queries as appropriate; including public consultations and Elected Members.
