Brief Description
The Role:

The Digital Transformation team within Network Rail Training is developing blended learning solutions that will include digital simulation, ensuring our Network Rail colleagues gain and retain skills using the latest technology, and allowing for more flexibility and improved learning outcomes for learners.

The team is currently supporting the East Coast Digital Programme to deliver European Train Control System training to Operations and Maintenance staff across the Route. This work is likely to grow as other NR Routes and Regions adopt the same technology. The team also works closely with technical colleagues developing the digital training solutions, making the role an exciting one, surrounded by the development and implementation of the latest technology.

As a Project Management Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the project team to ensure successful project delivery. You will provide assistance in key areas, including project coordination, administrative support, and stakeholder communication. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the programme and project management team in the delivery of projects.
  2. Deliver individual projects or parts of projects in a safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible manner to time, cost, and quality.
  3. Provide a professional, consistent, and effective project management service including the use of performance indicators and project reporting systems.
  4. Manage the production of project management plans and other associated project management documents.
  5. Manage project budgets within agreed targets and provide periodic updates through the management review process.
  6. Deliver regular progress reports on projects, including relevant risks and issues, to the Programme Manager.

What we're looking for:
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software/tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in a project management environment is a plus but not essential.
Essential:
  • Educated to HNC/HND level or relevant work experience.
  • Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
Desirable:
  • Working towards, or qualified Project Manager (Prince 2 or APM).
  • Knowledge of the operational railway.
  • Knowledge of European Train Control Technology.
  • Experience working in a training environment.
  • Associate Member of the Association for Project Management or other professional body.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills including Microsoft Project skills.
  • Degree in a relevant subject.
