The Atlantic Salmon Trust is looking to appoint a Programme Coordinator for Project Laxford, one of its pioneering Core Rivers programmes currently operating in Scotland.
Project Laxford is a partnership between the Atlantic Salmon Trust and Grosvenor’s Reay Forest Estate based around the River Laxford catchment in northwest Sutherland. By combining state-of-the-art environmental monitoring and on-the-ground habitat restoration, Project Laxford’s planned 10-year programme of work looks to create an exemplar for river catchment restoration, where solutions for wild Atlantic salmon and wider biodiversity recovery can be implemented at a catchment scale.
Working together with Grosvenor’s Reay Forest Estate staff, the local community and other project partners, the Programme Coordinator will organise, operate and maintain the salmon and sea trout monitoring and restoration programme for the River Laxford catchment. This includes overseeing and maintaining a world-leading sonar-imaging fish counter, managing an annual PIT (passive integrated transponder) tagging programme of juvenile salmon, managing the seasonal operation of a rotary screw trap to capture juvenile salmon, electrofishing surveys, invertebrate surveys and wider ecological surveying.
The role holder will also support and facilitate the delivery of research and restoration actions, both in the field and desk-based, working collaboratively with the Atlantic Salmon Trust’s wider research and restoration teams, as well as the team at Grosvenor’s Reay Forest Estate. This includes work in the river, its tributaries, lochs and surrounding landscape, as well as in the estuarine and near-coastal zones. Community engagement also lies at the heart of the project, and the Programme Coordinator will support and develop communication and outreach exercises to engage and inspire.
This exciting role gives an outstanding, driven and motivated individual the opportunity to live and work in one of the UK’s most beautiful, wild places on a project at the forefront of wild salmon restoration. Above all, this role is about being part of a visionary nature restoration project with the ambition to generate the knowledge and solutions required to support wild salmon recovery efforts across the North Atlantic.

A passion for improving wild fish populations and aquatic habitats is essential. Knowledge of sustainable food systems and the hospitality sector would be a plus. You'll play a pivotal role in amplifying our voice in the media and driving awareness of the critical issues facing wild fish populations.

The Community Alliance Trust (CAT) is an independent registered Scottish Charity and the Development Trust for Greater Craigmillar. It was established in 2011 in response to the stalled regeneration programme in Craigmillar. It currently runs the White House, a beautiful art deco building which is a community hub that includes a café (White House Kitchen) and an educational organisation (IntoUniversity) as well as being the head office for the Trust. It also has several social enterprises, including some community growing projects. CAT has a small staff currently funded through grant awards e.g. Scottish Government or the Local Authority.

We have an opportunity for a Strategic Planning Manager to join the Strategic Planning team on a full-time fixed term contract for 12 months. This is a dynamic role where you will co-ordinate the key components of the strategic management system.

You will be part of a small, dispersed team working flexibly to meet the needs of our key stakeholders. The team oversees the Fund’s corporate planning, business planning and project/programme management processes to ensure we achieve our strategic ambitions.
You will bring expertise in strategic planning to facilitate the annual business planning process within senior leadership teams across the Fund, supporting directorates to deliver our strategic aspirations. We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail who can also see the bigger picture. Through a continuous improvement approach you will regularly review our ways of working and be empowered to identify and implement innovative solutions. With your strategic thinking and analytical skills you will contribute to reports to senior leaders to provide assurance, raise issues and support effective decision making.
You will work collaboratively with our wider network of colleagues from across the organisation to deliver our key corporate processes, including the Finance team to ensure alignment between planning and budgeting.
You’ll play a key role in reporting against our strategic transformation and delivery programme, helping the Fund to assess whether we are on track to achieve our goals. You will have a strong background in project delivery, helping to develop and strengthen our internal project management capabilities by rolling out project management tools and templates, and providing coaching and guidance to project leads.
With strong organisational skills you will manage your workload and priorities throughout the year, ensuring that team priorities are met and aligning your efforts with the overall goals of the team. Your strong communication skills and passion will help raise the profile of the team and our work with colleagues across the Fund. There will be some travel expectations, with quarterly face-to-face team meetings within one of our offices.
