Job Title - Project Environmental Advisor - Environment Division

Location - Hampton, Middlesex

Purpose of the Role:
As Project Environmental Advisor, you will provide technical support and guidance for the operations team on all environmental (including site carbon emissions) aspects on a project. You will take a lead role in managing works in accordance with our environmental management systems, undertake environmental monitoring, manage consents and permits and any regulatory interface. Delivery of this role enables environmental excellence, consistency in performance, compliance with management systems, and implementing continual improvement initiatives.

What you will be doing:

  1. Foster and support an inclusive, open, transparent, and collaborative environment to develop our HS&E culture, maturity, and behaviours to deliver HS&E excellence.
  2. Support the project team in the delivery of the environmental project goals and objectives to drive continual improvement in the project addressing short-, medium-, and long-term growth and learning.
  3. Actively support the environmental advisors to ensure the promotion of our behavioural programme; 'Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviours', so that it is consistent with our business leadership ambitions.
  4. Ensure our Business Management System (including Environmental Systems) have been correctly implemented, taking account of client and regulatory requirements, to align with our project goals and objectives and ensure compliance with our processes and standards.
  5. Ensures that the project team are provided with technical and specialist environmental guidance to enable delivery of the project in line with company, client, regulatory and legal standards, requirements.
  6. Ensures works are undertaken with the environmental permitting process in conjunction with the project team (application, submission, management, monitoring and surrender) and managing the regulatory interface and engagement where required.
  7. Ensures the implementation and management of environmental monitoring requirements, including water sampling and testing, noise and vibration, waste management and site carbon emissions.
  8. Utilises Environmental performance KPIs to review performance and drives continual improvement within the project and relevant supporting functions. Feeds back outputs for wider strategic review.
  9. Undertakes site based auditing to ensure activities are in compliance with our Business Management System. Escalates concerns as required.
  10. Proactively collaborate with Framework, Divisional and Group meetings including weekly reviews, monthly updates and participation in working groups as required.
  11. Contributes to continual improvement to identify and unlock gains in environmental performance and mitigate risk to GT that could occur through environmental-related issues.
  12. Reports to project director on a regular basis and attends project based, client and regulatory meetings as required as part of the project lifecycle.
  13. Escalate and report any environmental concerns to the Project Director and Framework HS&E Manager.

Key Outputs:

  1. Supports the project team with environmental support for the review and revision of project documentation such as Project Environmental Plan, Environmental Risk Register, Emergency Response Plans, Internal Environmental Permits, high-risk work (Risk Assessment and Method Statements) and regulatory permits.
  2. Ensures a programme of project environmental monitoring is implemented and reviewed regularly with the project team. Review specific trends from the monitoring to ensure compliance with regulatory permits, project deliverables and management system. Ensures that the quality of monitoring is maintained to a high standard.
  3. Conducts environmental audits to ensure compliance with our management systems. Ensures necessary outputs are recorded within our systems and advises project team as appropriate to ensure timely closeout.
  4. Assists in the onboarding and management review of our supply chain partners applicable to project scope. Communicates environmental risk requirements associated with work packages.
  5. Supports our learning and development programme by preparing and delivering training and awareness sessions, instructions, best practice guidance, codes of practice, environmental information, etc. to the project team and clients as required.
  6. Lead on incident investigations to identify root causes and recommendations to prevent recurrence. Monitor and manage incident reports within the designated timescale and manage close out within the approved system. Review the quality of incident reports and where necessary provide support to improve.
  7. Where necessary liaise with regulatory bodies in the management of incidents.
  8. Under direction of the Project Director and Framework HS&E Manager produce weekly progress reports in a timely manner and present at the relevant meetings.
  9. Develops Personal Development Review and takes ownership for actions.

About You:

  4. Very good communicator, written and verbal; ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including clients, regulators and third-parties.

  6. Highly collaborative and outstanding relationship building capacity, with strong communication, negotiating, engaging, and influencing skills -fostering a one-team approach across organisation.
  7. Self-disciplined, and able to evidence understanding of a well-structured, systematic approach to identify and analyse problems, understand risks, and implement appropriate solutions.
  8. Ideally experienced in working on similar projects or frameworks within this role.
  9. Proven in environmental management, systems, risks, and legal frameworks.
  10. Experienced in delivering learning programmes.
  11. Experienced in delivering environmental role throughout the project lifecycle (prepare, design and construction).
  12. Knowledge of data analytics and reporting systems.
  13. Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages.
  14. Relevant environmental experience in a similar industry operating at a senior level.
  15. Environmental Degree, or qualification or 5 years or more environmental experience.
  16. Full driving licence and willingness to travel across projects / contracts in region.
  17. Practitioner Member of IEMA, or working towards.
