Solar Careers UK, is a division of the solar industry's trade association Solar Energy UK, who represent 425+ solar businesses, many that specialise in providing high quality solar installations to domestic, commercial, and utility-scale clients. We have been asked to assist them with the recruitment of full-time and permanent installation teams from across all regions of the United Kingdom.

Job Purpose:

Deliver the assigned construction and engineering projects successfully at site level whilst conforming to time, scope and quality requirements.


Responsibilities:
  1. Manage and ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental standards are always understood and adhered to.
  2. Act as the client's primary focus on a day-to-day basis, acting in a professional and courteous manner, and reporting any relevant interactions internally.
  3. Manage subcontractors and their works, challenging any cost, scope, progress, safety or quality issues, and reorganising works where appropriate.
  4. Take charge of project logistics ahead of time, co-ordinating deliveries and plant movement, taking into account site conditions and offload requirements to ensure that goods and materials are installed safely and on programme.
  5. Responsible for digitally updating the provided project plan, reporting live on progress and delay in an accurate manner, whilst creating parallel lookahead programmes for site as required.
  6. Manage the delivery of assigned Inspection Test Plans to enable the sequential sign-off of individual packages of work.
  7. Organise and manage the site mobilisation and demobilisation, plus hire and off-hire of equipment required for the works.
  8. Manage RAMS reviews, and creation or amendment where necessary. Deliver inductions and toolbox talks, and manage permit to work systems.
  9. Write detailed reports and updates for the Project Engineering Manager and other project departmental heads.
  10. Liaise with Purchasing to assist the Project Manager in the procurement of necessary materials for the installation.
  11. Collate and submit accurate project documentation, including but not limited to As-Built drawings, calibration and test certificates, and commissioning records.
  12. Suggest and implement cost-effective solutions and proposals, acting as the focal point for unexpected technical difficulties and other problems, ensuring that they are resolved in a timely manner.
  13. Control the continuous snagging of work on site, arranging for appropriate actions to be taken and closed out ahead of time.
  14. Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders either in person or on-line. Where appropriate, schedule and act as chair, taking minutes and assigning actions.
  15. Undertake the role and responsibilities of Site Manager as required with particular emphasis on CDM and the supervision of sub-contractors.

Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills:
Essential:
  1. Experience within a relevant discipline, such as construction, electrical or mechanical engineering.
  2. Good understanding of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
  3. Good IT skills - Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project, Teams, able to communicate and use VPN, video conferencing and mobile platforms.
  4. Knowledge of current 'Construction (Design and Management) Regulations'.
  5. Project Management.
  6. Basic coaching and negotiation skills.

  1. A background in electrical / mechanical engineering and/or construction.
  2. Site management experience.
  3. CSCS card holder.
  4. Knowledge of the current 'Construction (Design and Management) Regulations'.
  5. Good understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  6. Willingness to travel extensively and work away from home as required.

Desirable:
  1. Experienced with CHP installations.
  2. Experience in a related discipline e.g. - boilers, HV systems, quantity surveying, CAD, planning, SCADA, BMS.
  3. IOSH / SMSTS qualified.
  4. Degree / HND / HNC in Engineering.
