Brief Description

Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services to help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway.

This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.

Are you ready to challenge the status quo and drive efficiency in rail project delivery?

We are seeking an exceptional Project Engineer (Overhead Line Equipment) to lead the charge in revolutionising how we deliver projects across the UK and to inspire the team in delivering a safe, quality, and efficient construction service to our Regional Customers.

This role is pivotal in meeting customer demands and budget expectations while fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. You will be a strategic thinker, able to influence at all levels and demonstrate your experience of safely managing large scale projects in construction or infrastructure environments, being familiar with Construction Design Management (CDM 2015).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Carry out the duties of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) for construction for specific projects.
  2. Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation.
  3. Engineer Projects to the standards and specification of Network Rail, ensuring compliance with appropriate Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards.
  4. Manage all engineering activities to ensure schemes are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  5. Maintain the use of relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis.
  6. Provide project management advice in respect of all construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision.
  7. Ensure Internal and contractor's design/construction/specialists' personnel are competent.
  8. Identify and share best practice across the various project teams.
  9. Establish a culture of continuous improvement within construction services.
  10. Continually review the delivery programme to ensure maximum engineering benefit is returned.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential
  1. Successful relevant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects.
  2. Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level.
  3. Knowledge of quality assurance.
  4. An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work.
  5. CDM, risk assessment, auditing internal and external competency.

Desirable
  1. Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level.
  2. Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects.
  3. An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works.
  4. Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
  5. Project safety management experience.
  6. Yellow book course.
