PRODUCTION PLANNING MANAGER – HEAVY ENGINEERING

SANDIACRE, NOTTINGHAM

COMPETITIVE SALARY

Progress Rail Services UK is looking to recruit a Planning Manager to develop, lead and coordinate the implementation of PRS UK’s integrated Production Delivery Plan and its sub-plans across the 4 manufacturing sites in the UK, ensuring alignment with business objectives in a dynamic production environment, whilst driving continuous improvements and adaptability in planning processes.

This role is at the hub of PRS UK’s capability to deliver for our customers and works extensively with all key functions, notably Sales/Customer Service Delivery and Production Operations at all levels of management and execution to create deliverable plans to meet production targets while maintaining quality, safety and delivery standards.

THE ROLE:

As a Planning Manager you will be required to:

  1. Develop and manage the overall PRS UK integrated Production Delivery Plan in co-ordination with the Head of Supply Chain, Operational Planning, Logistics and Procurement.
  2. Liaise closely with Sales and external facing teams to clearly understand external demand requirements and integrate into the overall Production Delivery Plan.
  3. Work closely with Production Operations and other internal delivery functions (including Procurement and Logistics) to clearly understand internal and supply chain capabilities and how these align with external demand requirements and integrate into the overall Production Delivery Plan.
  4. Monitor and adjust plans in response to changing priorities and unforeseen challenges.
  5. Lead the development & implementation of specific production schedules for manufacturing sites in line with the integrated Production Delivery Plan and accounting for performance capabilities across manufacturing sites as well as supply chain/procurement.
  6. Collaborate with engineering, supply chain and production teams to develop, implement and continually review the integrated Production Delivery plan/planning processes to facilitate the optimization of production output and continuous improvement.
  7. Liaise with other departments such as sales, procurement and logistics to ensure inventory and materials are coordinated and levelled in line with planning requirements and adapt the overall plan in line with emerging outcomes.
  8. In co-ordination with the Procurement manager identify tactical and strategic supply chain development opportunities to optimize the Production Delivery Plan and develop proposals for engaging with functional stakeholders (e.g. Sales, Service Delivery and Production Operations).
  9. Review production data to identify bottlenecks and implement solutions for process improvements and build these into the integrated Production Delivery Plan.
  10. Develop & monitor planning metrics & reports to support decision making, evaluate planning performance - reporting out to the senior leadership team.
  11. Advise on lead times & capacity and tactical (and strategic) opportunities to maximize.
  12. Lead improvement initiatives to enhance planning capabilities in PRS UK that support operational performance development.
  13. Provide guidance and direction to site planners fostering a collaborative and high performing team environment.
  14. Ensure compliance with Health, safety & environmental regulations within areas of control.
  15. Prepare regular reports for senior management on operational performance and planning metrics.
THE CANDIDATE:

The ideal Planning Manager:

  1. Demonstrable experience in production planning in a manufacturing setting.
  2. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  3. Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage cross site teams and work cross functionally dealing with all levels of seniority.
  4. Experience working with and developing ERP systems and production planning software to optimize planning processes/outcomes.
  5. Knowledge of lean principles.
  6. Knowledge of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Visio etc).
  7. Ability to thrive in an often fluid/changing manufacturing environment.
  8. Collaborative leadership.
