Reporting to the Process Lead, the role of the Inspection and Packaging Team Leader is to manage the shift team and processes to achieve the production schedule to agreed standards of cGMP, HSE (Health, Safety, & Environment), productivity, HR (Human Resources), and cost. Be a key front-line leader in the manufacturing organisation working cross-functionally to develop and maintain a high-performing team and develop strong working relationships with internal functions. Execute the strategic plan to consistently deliver high-quality products whilst continuously driving step-change improvements aligned to site and company objectives.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, and direct the shift team to deliver objectives to agreed standards of HSE, cGMP, productivity, and cost, including resource management, allocation, and deployment.
- Manage usage of contracted hours for both permanent and temporary staff.
- Accountable for shift-to-shift consistency, coordination, and communications with Shift Team Leader peers.
- Develop and maintain training for departmental teams and individuals.
- Schedule and complete regular 1-2-1’s with team members.
- Standardise work across teams/roles to avoid discrepancies using leader standard work principles.
- Act as cGMP/HSE production expert and coach the production teams to maintain standards.
- Manage and continuously improve performance in schedule adherence, HSE, cGMP, productivity, and cost.
- Coordinate or lead investigations in HSE, Quality, and other loss control incidents in the department. Support HSE or Quality investigations in other areas as required.
- Support and enable the highest standards of compliance, report incidents, and manage people management/HR practices (e.g., recruitment, attendance, disciplinary, grievance, and HR admin procedures).
- Manage and continuously improve performance in regulatory audit readiness and outcomes.
- Co-ordinate department compliance activities to adhere to site metrics.
- Attend site meetings and present updates at designated Secondary and Site forums.
- Lead and champion changes, innovations, and improvements for any related focus areas in Secondary as required. Participate in Secondary and cross-functional project teams as required.
- Support department Process Lead and deputies for meetings when required.
- Recruit, develop, train, communicate to, and support teams and the Secondary organisation as required.
- Manage KPIs/Visual Factory including reporting on performance, developing, and maintaining a focus on key Lead & Lag metrics.
Capabilities
- A proven manufacturing leader, ideally in inspection and/or packing processes.
- Strong shift management experience and compliant in operational decision making in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, biological, or highly regulated industry.
- Experience of developing a positive HSE behavioural culture on a shift operation.
- Experience of leading and implementing improvement activities.
- Experience of the use and application of lean continuous improvement tools and techniques.
